A wonderful family home surrounded by beautiful gardens and overlooking the Trent Valley.
Barlaston Hall is an architectural triumph that stands
proudly on a wooded ridge above the valley of the
Trent between Stone and Stoke-on-Trent. Built in 1756-58 by Sir Robert Taylor for a local lawyer it features many of Taylor's trademarks including octagonal glazing. The house remained in the same family until it was bought by the Wedgwood family in 1937. The house fell into disrepair when local mining caused subsidence and permission was sought to demolish it sparking one of the most talked about conservation 'causes célèbres'
of the 20th century. It was bought for £1 by SAVE (a conservation group) and further funding from English Heritage, The Historic Buildings Council and input form the Secretary of State secured its restoration which was completed in the early 90's. The house was bought in 1992 and the interior was carefully restored to create the beautiful family home that it is today.
