Vendor Interview - Occupying a much sought after semi-rural location almost equidistant between the well-served villages of Allesley and Meriden, and just minutes from Coventry city centre is The Cottage, a beautifully presented family home that originally dates back to the 17th Century. “I’d say that it was first and foremost the setting that attracted me to this house,” says the owner. “The very first time I came to view it, I pulled in through the gates and saw this very attractive house and the expansive grounds which stretch out before you and back onto nothing but open fields, and that was it, I was totally sold.”

“The house began life as two rather modest cottages which were built in 1695, they were later combined to form one dwelling and a large extension was added around a hundred years ago, so far from being a quaint little cottage – as the name would suggest – it’s actually a very substantial property. When I purchased it it’s fair to say that it was in need of a fair bit of TLC, so during my time here I’ve enhanced it by extending out to the rear and adding a huge conservatory; I’ve put in new floors and under-floor heating; some of the ceilings had to be replaced and I also had a new roof put on. Attention to detail is extremely important to me, so all the work has been done to an incredibly high standard and in a way that’s sympathetic to the style and sense of history of the house. Internally it’s very much a modern family home, but there are feature here and there that give it real character.”

“There are six sets of bi-folding doors in the conservatory, so there’s a really nice connection between inside and out,” continues the owner, “and the garden itself is a stunning feature of the property. It extends to just over one and a half acres and surrounds the house, so from every room there’s a really lovely view. The whole space enjoys a good degree of privacy as it’s not in the slightest bit overlooked and the garden has been designed with ease of maintenance in mind, which leaves more time to enjoy it.”

Favourite Room: “The open-plan kitchen, dining and living room is the real hub of the home,” says the owner. “It opens via double doors straight into the conservatory, which in turn opens onto the garden, so I can create one huge space for entertaining and in the summer everyone can spill out onto the garden. It’s a lovely big, sociable space.”

Favourite aspect of the grounds or surrounding area: “Looking out from the house all you see is green and it’s so very peaceful here,” says the owner, “however it’s just four miles into Coventry city centre, so everything is within easy reach.”

Memorable event (if not another favourite room or unique feature): “The conservatory is another really lovely part of the house,” says the owner, “and from it you get the most amazing panoramic view of the garden and the fields beyond.”

What they’ll miss most / why they are leaving: “I think it’s the approach to the house that I’ll miss most when I leave, it’s just so impressive even after seventeen years of living here,” says the owner. “It definitely has the wow factor.”
