Built in 2014, this luxurious residence has been finished to the highest possible standard, incorporating all of the latest 'Smart Home' technologies. The property sits in an enviable location, with easy access to the A14 and Kimbolton School. Huntingdon Station and Wellingborough Station are equidistant.
Entering through wrought-iron electronic gates, the long sweeping gravel drive takes you through the manicured gardens up to gravelled parking for around ten cars and four-car garage block with a gym and sauna room above. There is also a double cart barn with workshop.
Entering the grand entrance hall, a stunning central Imperial staircase leads to a large balcony. There is a lift to all floors, and access to the study, cloaks room, two WCs, drawing room, kitchen family dining room with further access to the family room with bifold doors out to the gardens, utility room and games room. From the entrance hall is a staircase down to the orangery with sunken staircase to patio area overlooking the lakes, and further stairs down to the basement level, boasting a bespoke bar area with dance floor and built-in sound system, and a cinema room with seating for eight people. There is also an external spiral staircase offering access to the garden.
The first floor boasts a master suite with his and hers dressing rooms, WC, and large en suite. There are three further bedrooms, each with their own themed en suite facilities. The second floor has a large landing with glass lantern ceiling, and four bedrooms each with their own en suite facilities.
There is a self-contained one bedroom annexe, with high-quality kitchen dining room, bathroom suite, office, and dual-aspect lounge with direct access to a private courtyard garden.
Nestled in the glorious Cambridgeshire countryside and enveloped by eighteen acres of stunning private grounds is Mickle Hill Grange, a magnificent country home. “My parents bought the property back in 2006 and it was the location itself that proved to be the biggest draw,” says Ieuan. “As far as the eye can see in every direction there’s nothing but the most beautiful rolling countryside, so within both the house and grounds there’s a wonderful feeling of peaceful seclusion. However, at the same time there are lots of well-served towns and villages that lie within really easy reach, so everything you could possibly want or need is relatively close at hand. In short, I’d say it’s the perfect spot.”
“In 2013 they decided to knock down the original house and build their dream home, which externally has been designed in a similar style to the old property, so it fits beautifully within its surroundings. However the house as a whole is considerably bigger and no expense has been spared so internally it’s incredibly luxurious. The rooms all have grand proportions, the ceilings are high and there are some stunning features, such as ornate cornicing and architraves, beautiful fireplaces and in the large reception hall there’s a huge central staircase that sweeps up to an elegant galleried landing.
As well as plenty of space for the family and the more formal reception rooms, my parents also had a fabulous home cinema and party room created in the basement area, so not only is it a really exceptional family home, it’s also an amazing house to entertain in.”
“The house is set well away from the road and is approached via a long driveway that winds its way through the parkland that lies to the front of the house, so there’s a wonderful feeling of total privacy,” continues Ieuan. “The grounds then wrap around the house and stretch out beyond the back. The majority of the space is laid to lawn and punctuated by beautiful trees and shrubs; there’s a large patio area and also a small lake, which could easily take a little boat. It’s the most beautiful environment to live in; completely private, unbelievably peaceful and the views in every direction are incredible.”
“The very large open-plan kitchen, dining and living room is the real hub of the home,” says Ieuan. “It’s a very sociable space in which the family can all come together.”
“My parents were keen to find a location that was very rural, but at the same time not isolated, and here they found that perfect balance,” says Ieuan. “There are some lovely little villages just a few minutes’ drive away – including Keyston which has an award-winning pub – and it’s possible to hop in the car and be in Huntingdon or even Peterborough in around half an hour. In my mind it’s ideal.”
“Attached to the main house is a beautiful self-contained annex,” says Ieuan. “My parents actually lived in it while the house was being built and they used it as a testbed, so the interior is stunning and really high end. It could be ideal accommodation for elderly relatives or even a nanny.”
“What my parents have created here is the most beautiful country house, and it’s one that has the elegance of a period property combined with all the modern conveniences of a newly-built home,” says Ieuan. “It’s exceptional, but what really sets it apart is the quite spectacular setting.”
