“We can access the Warwickshire countryside from the back of our house and we enjoy walking our dogs around Caldecott Manor. Market Bosworth and Bosworth fields are 10 minutes by car and are full of fabulous, ancient woodland and steeped in the history of King Richard. We like to walk along the canals, and, backing on to ancient woodland means you don’t need to join a gym as it keeps you active with lots of walks, runs and dog walking opportunities.”
“We like to pop over the road to the Royal Red Gate Bistro which serves lovely food and has a beer garden, and there are some nice restaurants a little further afield in Sutton Cheney and Market Bosworth. Market Bosworth has some bijou little shops and an amazing farmer’s market on a Sunday, whilst Nuneaton is just on our doorstep with all the main retailers and amenities.”
“My husband built a treehouse for the children with a swing underneath and space for a camp fire, which they have always enjoyed. In fact, they were there only last weekend toasting huge marshmallows! Being a woodland garden, it’s easy to maintain with two ancient lime trees and a damson tree which comes into fruit in August, ideal for chutney making.”

“I spend most of the time pottering around in the kitchen or I can be found in the dining room which is smaller and more intimate than the lounge. We’ve tried to give a fair nod to the era of the property by retaining the original features and maintaining the timber windows and original casements.”

“We love the Victorian period and the main body of the house has big, thick walls that keep the house cool in summer and warm in the winter. It’s also chock full of original features, including the high ceilings and two open fires. The lounge is an elegant room, complimentary of a Victorian property but with modern convenience at the same time. It has a beautiful oak wooden floor which is fabulous for kids and dogs, extremely hardy! It’s a nice, big room with an open fire and it’s extremely toasty in the winter.”

“Christmas is great here and we all have our birthdays around the same time, so we have a very active winter time! The house lends itself to the cosy, fireside, festive environment and we’ve often been found toasting chestnuts around the open fires, even though it’s not the most efficient way of doing it!”

What they’ll miss most / why they are leaving
“I’ll miss the size and the character, there’s something quirky and comforting about Rookwood. The kids are older and we don’t need as much space now. I don’t think you ever really ‘own’ these properties, we are a keeper for a period of time and we’ve written our story. It’s time to start another chapter elsewhere. We need to hand this legacy on to someone else to continue with, you don’t get many opportunities to live in a property like this and we’ve had our turn. I’ll miss the memories, there’s a real emotional attachment to this property.”

Location - Located just off the A5 to the north of Coventry and to the east of Birmingham City Centre also providing quick and easy access to the M69, M6, M1 and M42. Birmingham International Airport is a short distance up the M42
