Accommodation - Entering through the front door into Broomstick Cottage and into the main living room, you are immediately greeted with a wealth of character and traditional features, most noticeably the beautifully restored beams and the magnificent feature fire place. Heading left you have the large traditional kitchen, with room for a breakfast table, as well as the pantry to the rear. To the right of the main living room is the second sitting room which could also be used as a dining room. To the rear of this room is the recently refitted bathroom, with a roll top bath and underfloor heating. Heading up the stairs in this room, you will find bedroom 3. The master bedroom and bedroom 2 can be found up the stairs in the main sitting room. The master bedroom benefits from a large wardrobe space hollowed into the wall.
Outside - The large garden in front of the property is filled with many flowers and plants, yet still very low maintenance. A further hidden garden to the rear of the property also offers a relaxing space and acts as a sun trap in the warmer months. There is also an outbuilding which has a multitude of uses, currently used as a space for the washing machine and dryer, as well as further storage.
Location - Broomstick Cottage is conveniently located in close proximity of the M6, M69, and A46. The property is also just over a 10 minute walk to the University Hospital, and also a 10 minute drive into Coventry City Centre and Coventry Train Station, where a train into London Euston takes just under an hour.
Sellers Insight - “Broomstick Cottage is a beautiful, timber framed, thatched cottage and we fell in love with it instantly. We had always loved old properties and when we walked up the path, we were stunned to find this hidden gem and it took our breath away. We were in a race with 5 other people to buy it and it was a case of who sold their property first and luckily it was us, we felt that it was just meant to be,” say the vendors.
“The beams had previously been covered with blackboard paint and my husband spent months stripping them back, it was a real labour of love. We also changed what was an almost vertical staircase and moved the bath from the living room into the privacy of its own room! Since then, we added another extension to create a luxurious bathroom with a roll top bath and walk in shower. We can adjust the lighting to suit our mood, from relaxing in the bath in the evening, to a bright invigorating shower in the morning.”
“We’ve added to the garden over the years and it’s now around 1/3 of an acre. It’s easy to manage and well stocked with different shrubs, flowers and plants. The vegetable plot and fruit trees are very productive and we used to keep chickens too. They were brilliant fun and gave us a great supply of fresh eggs. We use the garden as an outside room where we like to eat breakfast in the sun, party with family or chill out on the swing with a glass of wine whilst watching the wildlife.”
“Although we’re tucked away and enjoy the sense of privacy, everything we need is easily accessible including the motorway network, shops and restaurants.”
“The bespoke, solid oak kitchen is the hub of the home. It’s always cosy and warm in the winter and I like to bake bread and make my own chutney and jam which is often shared with neighbours. It’s a very flexible room and we’ve enjoyed plenty of dinner parties and celebrations in here.”
Favourite aspect of the grounds or surrounding area:
“We’re tucked away in a tiny hamlet of old properties and you wouldn’t know we were here unless you walk up the path, it’s very private. It really is an idyllic setting.”
“The house is at it’s best at Christmas when the beams are decorated with swags and garlands and fairy lights twinkle in the garden. It is a really magical time of year.”
What they’ll miss most / why they are leaving:
“We are moving because of work purposes and we are sad to leave Broomstick Cottage which is a unique little gem. We will miss everything about it, including our marvellous neighbours.”
