The Owners’ Story

We do spend a lot of time in the kitchen and conservatory which is great for entertaining both in summer and winter, being a very light and warm room with great views over the garden. We can comfortably seat eight people around the new bespoke dining island. Our sitting room is a lovely cosy room in the winter with a large wood burner but in the summer it has triple aspect windows and French doors leading out to the garden.
All the bathrooms have been completely renewed and the kitchen and conservatory have been retiled with light coloured porcelain tiles
The garden has been totally recreated and transformed into a magnificent area, which is great for summer parties to which we frequently have 50 to 60 guests. However if the weather is poor we can still accommodate them all within the house.
The walled courtyard is the main outdoor dining space but there are many places throughout the garden to sit and enjoy the sun at different times throughout the day. We have built a new patio on the other side of the river as an alternative area for a BBQ, and the sun shines straight into the Gazebo in the evening which is a perfect place to sit and have a sundowner
This is a wonderful house to live and entertain in. We have four children and eight grandchildren so there is always someone staying. Christmas is a fantastic time with family and friends when we have a huge Christmas tree in the hall and there are many places for each age group to be. Of course we also have great Christmas parties for our friends as well.

Oak House is on the edge of the pretty Hertfordshire village of Flamstead, just
10 minutes from Harpenden and its station, where fast trains reach St Pancras in less than 30 minutes. Flamstead is a lively community with three pubs, a successful primary school and a good village shop, while Harpenden has a wide choice of restaurants, cafes and shops including a Waitrose and excellent secondary schools for which Flamstead is within the catchment area. The M1 and M25 are conveniently nearby and Luton Airport is less than seven miles to the north.
