The Nature Barn also benefits from two permanent bird hides strategically situated overlooking Oughtershaw Beck and with panoramic views of the Fells. The hides were constructed by Green Future Buildings using sustainably sourced materials including panels manufactured from recycled plastic bags.

FARM BUILDINGS

The traditional farm buildings situated to the rear of the farmhouse are constructed of stone under a stone flag roof and comprise a traditional cow byre and stables. The buildings were included within the original planning consent for conversion to form four holiday units (Ref: C/13/169A) which has now been implemented by the completion of the conversion of Hay Mew and Byre. Accordingly, the unconverted traditional buildings benefit from consent for conversion to form two further self-catered holiday lets.

The modern farm buildings comprise a general purpose steel portal frame building currently used to process logs and to house ‘Bertha’ (the Biomass boiler) together with the accumulation tank. Directly adjoining the timber processing shed is the farm workshop and livestock accommodation.

THE LAND

Nethergill Farm extends in all to approximately 377.54 acres (152.79 hectares) comprising a mixture of ancient hay meadows and in-bye pastures as well as allotment and a newly planted woodland. The land lies close to the farmstead in a ring fence.

The land benefits from approximately 16 acres of ancient hay meadows, 27 acres of pasture land, woodland extending to approximately 45 acres and moorland extending to approximately 288 acres.

DIRECTIONS

From Hawes: Leave the A684 at the Petrol Station signposted Gayle. Travel past Wensleydale Creamery and through the village of Gayle over the bridge and following a sharp right. On leaving Gayle, continue for for approximately
5 miles travelling through a narrow constriction between a house and farm buildings (West Shaw Farm) to the summit of the Dale. After the summit, continue along the road as it bears left signposted Kettlewell (do not go straight on signposted Cam Houses) and wind your way down the hill. At the bootom of the hill just before Oughtershaw turn right onto the farm track just after the Victorian stone commemorative pillar. Continue along the track for approximately ¾ of a mile and Nethergill is on the right hand side.

From Skipton: Leave the A59 Skipton bypass on the B6265 signposted Grassington. Travel through the villages of Cracoe and Threshfield. Where the B6265 turns right towards Grassington, carry straight on the B6160 towards Buckden (through Kettlewell and Starbotton). In Buckden,
take the left fork signposted Hubberholme and continue towards Hawes, over the Cattle Grid at Yockenthwaite and over the iron bridge at Deepdale. Continue along this road
through Oughtershaw and on leaving Outhershaw turn left onto the farm track with the farm sign set into the dry stone wall. Continue along the track for approximately ¾ of a mile and Nethergill is on the right hand side.
