Why you’ll like it:
The Mediterranean Revival period was most prevalent in the first half of the 20th Century, with white stucco walls, tiled roofs and balconies always a feature. This house was built in the 1950s and bears these attractive characteristics, and has light and space in abundance. It is set well back from the road past an immaculate front garden, complete with a palm tree to accentuate the look. You approach down a driveway for one car, and the front door opens up to the central reception room which has gleaming parquet floors in warming tones, and a large picture window looking down over the garden and framing the first of the delightful scenic views. This was once used as a dining room, but it is also perfect as a family room too.
The kitchen is to the right, and is a spacious room as it was once a large garage. It is now double aspect, as many rooms are, and it has modern white units topped with a practical dark worktop. There’s underfloor heating in here, and the brushed stainless steel drawers are on trend below the Neff gas hob. The AEG oven has been placed in a tower for easy access, but all other appliances are freestanding to include space for an American fridge freezer, a washing machine, a dishwasher and a tumble dryer. The room to the rear of the property, which was once the kitchen, is now a snug/TV room, and there’s side access as well as a separate WC - an essential in any shared space.
The westerly side of the house has a delightful living room, also with parquet flooring, and a deep, south facing bow window, with a glamourous window seat, from which you can see through the depth of the house to the rear garden and leafy views. There’s ample space in here for comfortable sofas and chairs, and a unique stone fireplace houses a contemporary gas fire to warm you during the cooler months. This room flows into the double glazed conservatory which is the perfect spot for dining, and from here steps take you down to the garden.
A brick terrace then leads on to three tiers of lawn which can be used for entertaining, child’s play, and colourful planting. What seems like a hedgerow at the bottom of the garden, actually reveals a path to the left which opens out to a further secret garden which needs a little TLC, but would make an excellent vegetable patch or den as there is a tree here fit for a tree house!
Returning to the house, you climb the stairs to the first floor where laminate floor in walnut tones flows throughout for continuity. There are three peaceful double bedrooms, many with double aspect windows to maximise the light and to make the most of the surroundings, and then also the master suite which is beautifully styled with a sophisticated feature wall, and an en suite shower room tiled in natural stone.
The family bathroom is exquisite, with tiles in mocha and sand; a separate shower, and a romantic egg shaped, freestanding bathtub with central taps and shelving above for fluffy towels and scented candles. It feels very grown up and luxurious in here, but has enough space for bathing the little ones too.
