Full description

A charming stone built property with immense character, originally serving as the station master's house and railway station and now thoughtfully restored by the present owners. The stone built house offers an excellent balance of three reception rooms and three bedrooms together with a generously sized enclosed private garden extending to the front. The new Morpeth northern bypass has brought Longhirst within around a 20 minute drive of Kingston Park and, closer to hand, the property lies only 3 miles from the popular market town of Morpeth. EPC Rating: F.

Built in 1845 the property originally served as the station master's house and railway station for Longhirst. The station closed in the late 1950's and the property was turned into a permanent dwelling. The house still embraces it past, including the station platform which has been partially converted into a sun room. Station House offers good living space including the living room which was formally the ticket office and a sitting room, formerly the station waiting room, which both now centre on cosy multi fuel burning stoves.

The property is entered through a double gated entrance with a stone wall fa?ade and approached along a gravelled driveway opening onto an extensive block paved forecourt made from reclaimed Victorian Granite setts.

A large part glazed entrance door opens into the ground floor hallway with staircase leading off to the first floor, feature corbel and arches and double door understair cupboard.

The living room, formerly the station ticket office, is centred on a fireplace with pine surround and multi fuel stove and features a ceiling cornice and rectangular bay window. A large stripped pine door opens through to the sun room with laminated floor, glazed fa?ade and roof and attractive original stonework.

The sitting room is centred on a superb sandstone fire surround with multi fuel stove and features a high ceiling with ceiling rose and cornice and two windows looking out onto the sun room to where there is also a connecting door. The sitting room can also be accessed directly from the hallway.

To the rear of the hall lies a study with laminate floor and window overlooking the rear yard and a shower room containing shower cubicle, wash basin and w.c.

Off the entrance hall lies the dining room with laminate floor and picture window overlooking the forecourt. There is also a connecting door through to the kitchen with tiled floor and an extensive range of pine fronted base and wall units with woodwork surfacing, Belfast sink, plumbing for dish washer and space for range cooker below the fitted extractor hood.

The ground floor is completed with a useful utility room which lies off the kitchen and includes a base unit with stainless steel sink and additional storage space. This is also home to the central heating boiler.

On the first floor a split level landing leads off the top of the stairs to bedroom no.1, a double bedroom situated over the kitchen, bedroom no.2 a centrally positioned single bedroom and bedroom no.3 a double bedroom with dual aspect including a rectangular bay window similar to that in the living room. The family bathroom includes a freestanding roll top cast iron bath, pedestal wash basin and w.c. and comes with a tiled floor and half wall panelling.

Additionally, the attic space can be accessed via drop down ladder and has been boarded throughout, with electrical sockets and two large, south facing Velux windows providing lots of natural lighting and making this an ideal room as an artists studio, office space or additional bedroom with a few minor alterations and providing the necessary consents had been secured.

The property is approached through the attractive enclosed garden which includes a lawned area with flower borders and a summerhouse. There is also an enclosed rear yard with garden shed.
