What we loved about the place when we first visited was the size of the plot, Richard recalls. There was a real sense of space and we realised there was a lot we could do with it. Dating back to the mid 30's, the property was once a cottage used by London based studios to house their leading men and ladies during breaks in filming. It was used as a country retreat for people like Laurence Olivier in the 1930s and 40s. Since then it has been significantly extended.
