This 17th century cottage was an important location for Quakers in this area.

Carr House Cottage played a role in early Quaker history. George Fox held secret Quaker meetings in the orchards of the original farm. Assizes records show that the tenants from 1650 to 1680 became Quaker converts and were repeatedly imprisoned in Lancaster Castle for their beliefs. Today's cottage was the barn for the farm house and the records show animals and grains being confiscated in lieu of fines.
