SIMPLICITY AND SPACE

Designed and built in the 1970s by a well-known local boat builder, Sandings offered a well-maintained home, in which the family felt they could grow, succeed and enjoy the children.
The building, which has an indoor swimming pool has been designed to make the most of its site. "It is unusual because it sits below the level of the road. As you come into the house, the light, airiness and sizing of all the rooms is remarkable," she said. "It has a simplicity of design that really works."

SET SAIL

Throughout the house, she said, there is evidence of a boat builder's skill and eye for line and detail. "There is no need for elaborate decoration or ornate furnishing, as the house is decorated by its surroundings. It is definitely a home where you can feel the influence of the outside inside," she said. "The amount of light and the feeling of nature are quite special. This house has been designed by someone who understands space and how to make life flow."

SUNSHINE HOUSE

Both the drawing room and the large breakfast room are south-facing and offer different pleasures throughout the year, she stressed. "The winter sun and open fire make the drawing room a haven from the cold weather. In the summer, the breakfast room can be opened up on two sides to offer freshness and a feeling of living in the garden," she said.
But she added: "The kitchen must surely have the best view. We spend a lot of time preparing food and entertaining so it really works for us. "I remember that during the first few months of moving in I used to stand at the sink and wonder how I could be so lucky to have such a view while I worked."

SPECIAL PLACE

The family have always aimed to maintain the house to the highest standard, in keeping with the original objectives of the architect. They covered in an open balcony and this is now included in the breakfast room and their latest investment has been to install 32 PV solar panels, this receives a full feed in tariff. They said they will look back at the house as being an ideal living space.
"It has been adaptable for our needs - feeling cosy now there are just the two of us but able to accommodate all comers and make a significant impact on their lives as well," she said.
"We have many happy family memories of this home - perhaps the best and most recent event was to celebrate my 60th birthday. We put up a marquee in the back garden and had a catered barbecue for 50 people." And she added: "Many of our children's friends have fond memories of bonfire, Christmas and birthday parties we have held here, and we feel we have something special to share with them because of this house." Sandings occupies a privileged position within the heart of the Broads. The gardens lie to the front and rear and extend to approximately 0.3 acres (STMS).
