Description - Highwood is deceptive. Behind the facade is a really exceptional interior. Light, bright, spacious and beautifully presented, it would be a great home from which to entertain, offset by a manageable sized garden, which includes a 'wilderness area' of natural woodland. At the core of the house is the kitchen/breakfast room. Very well appointed and almost 20 feet long, there is ample space for a dining table at one end while there are three further reception rooms (one of which is used as a formal dining room), a utility room and a cloakroom. The house is cleverly designed with the master bedroom suite and a further double bedroom (with its own bathroom), taking up the whole of the lower ground floor, such that visiting family can have the uninterrupted use of the first floor, which has two more bedrooms with a bathroom in between. Outside Highwood has a double garage with a private driveway in front and is surrounded by its garden. This is in three parts. A broad sun terrace which extends round the rear to outbuildings; attractive borders leading down to a level lawn and beyond that a wooded dell.
Location - Amberley is widely regarded locally, as one of the most desirable villages in which to live around Stroud, a fact that anyone new to the area will come to appreciate, because of its setting, high up on the west facing slopes of the Woodchester Valley surrounded by Minchinhampton Common, a wonderful area of natural countryside, free for anyone to enjoy. The village which comprises four hamlets connected by a network of little lanes, is a very friendly community with a pub, country hotel, primary school and church. Locally the nearest towns are Nailsworth and Stroud. The former has an exceptional range of independent retailers and places to eat out, while Stroud which is the centre for the region, has Waitrose, Tescos and Sainsburys superstores and a mainline station - London Paddington from 95 minutes. There are lovely walks around Amberley and three challenging golf courses at nearby Minchinhampton. Regency Cheltenham, Georgian Bath and Bristol are all within easy reach, indeed this a very strategic part of the country in which to live for visiting family, being in the apex of the M4 and M5 motorways.
Directions - The property is most easily found by leaving Stroud on the A46 in the Nailsworth direction. Pass The Fleece public house on the left hand side and then branch left up Culver Hill signposted to Amberley and Minchinhampton. Immediately after crossing the upcoming cattle grid, turn hard left up the hill, signed to St Chloe. At the top of this incline, (opposite a high stone wall), branch left. Follow the lane a short distance further up the hill and as it bears sharp right, keep straight on and Highwood is then on the left marked by our For Sale Board. NB The entrance to this lane is marked by a blue 'Not suitable for HGV's sign.
