From the moment, the current owner stepped foot in the two-bedroom apartment, he knew exactly what his vision for it would be, although his wife was not so sure! Working alongside Marie Hussey, a professional interior designer who owned a shop in Salcombe at the time, they started to put things in motion, to transform the what was very drab, dated interior into something spectacular. Marie engaged local boat builder David Penwill to ensure everything was going to be done to exacting standards.

In the early days of the renovation David and the current owner visited the William Fife Yacht 'Fur Elise' which is where a lot of the inspiration for the design was taken from, including the dining table and the wood that has been used throughout the apartment. Derek, Marie's husband, set to work sourcing some beautiful antiques and artefacts, including a ships bell from HMML 333, which participated in the famous raid on Zeebrugge on St Georges Day 1918. The bell is attached to a genuine spar mast, which creates a stunning focal point in the living area. In recent years, additional boat work has been carried out by 'Traditional Sail' a well-known and respected local boat builder.

The apartment itself has two bedrooms along with an art deco design family shower room. The living space is open plan running the entire depth of the property with a galley style kitchen to the back. This open plan design makes a stunning living/dining space benefiting from French doors onto the balcony.

There is so much more that could be written about 'The Boat Flat' and the current owners and their family are of course incredibly fond of it and will be sorry to see it go, although they happily wish the new Captain and Crew happy times aboard!
