The primary school for the Ross of Mull is also based in the village. Bunessan is a thriving fishing village and is famous for its lobsters which come from nearby Loch Scridain. The village lies 5 miles from Fionnphort to the west where it is possible to take a ferry to the famous island of Iona. Craignure lies 28 miles to the east and is the terminal for the Caledonian MacBrayne ferry which runs a regular service throughout the year to the attractive town of Oban with its wide range of shops and amenities.
