It’s sometimes difficult to know what to say about Walthamstow Village that hasn’t already been said by others, and often better than we could ever hope to do so. We’ve mentioned before what a great place it is to live, how lovely the people are (both residents and business owners), what a strong sense of community there is (thanks in no small part to the work of the Village Residents Association), what a wonderful place it is to bring up your family due to the outstanding schools, and how convenient it is for the daily commute due to its proximity to Walthamstow Central station. We aren’t really sure there is anything else to be added – frankly, how much more could you possibly want in a place to call home???
Living Here... - Renovation projects are becoming rarer and rarer these days, particularly within the tight geographical confines of the Village. So when one like this comes to the market, it’s bound to be popular. Currently it’s a two bedroom house, but you only have to look next door to see the possibilities for expansion into a sizeable family home. On the ground floor there is an open plan lounge/diner with an adjoining kitchen, which itself leads onto a delightful private garden. Upstairs there are two good size bedrooms and family bathroom, and of course the possibility (as previously alluded to) to extend up into the loft (subject to the usual consents and permissions). This is a great project for someone to get their teeth into. Is that person you?
In This Area - By Walthamstow Diary - Despite what people may tell you, Walthamstow Village was not invented by estate agents. It’s called Walthamstow Village because it was once exactly that, a village. Once the administrative heart of Walthamstow, the Village is now content to simply be the neon capital of Europe. An unlikely claim you might think, but visit God’s Own Junkyard on Ravenswood industrial estate and you’ll see what I mean.
When your mind has been blown by the neon, pop in to Mother’s Ruin Gin Palace and Wildcard Brewery. All three businesses are based on Ravenswood, making it the most exciting industrial estate on the planet. The Village is full of quiet residential streets that all have easy access to bucket loads of pubs and restaurants. Take in the Jazz at the Nags Head on Sunday afternoon, enjoy the excellent food and beer at the Queen’s Arms, and sample the legendary chicken and bacon jam burger at Eat17.
To walk off all the food you’ve eaten, wander to the 15th century Ancient House, check out St Mary’s Church and its ivy clad church yard, have a pint in the garden at the Castle Pub, then admire the art in the windows of the old iron mongers.
