Maynard Road sits quietly in the south of Walthamstow Village, and as such pretty much everything you need for daily life (and evening carousing) is on your doorstep. The shops and cafes of Orford Road are just a short stroll up Beulah Road, whether it’s simply a loaf and a pint your after from the Spar, a double espresso from Froth & Rind, or the best cheese salad sandwich ever (with salad cream of course!) from the Village Bakery. Head the other way, take a turn up Maynard Path and you’re at the Ravenswood, where you can be dazzled by the neon brilliance of God’s Own Junkyard, sip a cocktail or two at Mother’s Ruin, or simply kick back with a pint at either of the two breweries there whilst devouring some delicious street food. Transport links are great too, with both Walthamstow Central and Wood Street within walking distance, as are Epping Forest and Hollow Ponds, should the dog (or maybe the kids too) need an extra spot of exercise to wear them out!
Guide Price £600,000 - £650,000.
Living Here... - Ask anyone about the type of properties that are found in Walthamstow Village, and we are pretty sure that the first thing most people will mention are Victorian cottage style houses. This particular property is a lovely example of the same, and in addition is perfectly positioned within touching distance of the popular Henry Maynard school. Inside, the ground floor is perfectly laid out for both family largely open plan, with a generous lounge to the front and kitchen diner to the rear, connected by double doors. Upstairs, there are two tastefully decorated bedrooms and the modern family bathroom. A wander out of the door of the kitchen diner will lead you into the lovely rear garden, which comes complete with decking, and would make a wonderful space in which to wow friends and family with your al fresco cooking skills. This is everything a Village home should be. The only thing missing is its new owner. Is that you?
In This Area - By Walthamstow Diary - Despite what people may tell you, Walthamstow Village was not invented by estate agents. It’s called Walthamstow Village because it was once exactly that, a village. Once the administrative heart of Walthamstow, the Village is now content to simply be the neon capital of Europe. An unlikely claim you might think, but visit God’s Own Junkyard on Ravenswood industrial estate and you’ll see what I mean.
When your mind has been blown by the neon, pop in to Mother’s Ruin Gin Palace and Wildcard Brewery. All three businesses are based on Ravenswood, making it the most exciting industrial estate on the planet. The Village is full of quiet residential streets that all have easy access to bucket loads of pubs and restaurants. Take in the Jazz at the Nags Head on Sunday afternoon, enjoy the excellent food and beer at the Queen’s Arms, and sample the legendary chicken and bacon jam burger at Eat17.
To walk off all the food you’ve eaten, wander to the 15th century Ancient House, check out St Mary’s Church and its ivy clad church yard, have a pint in the garden at the Castle Pub, then admire the art in the windows of the old iron mongers.
