Full description

Slaughterford is a picturesque village located within the By Brook Valley Conservation Area and the Cotswold Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with super commuter links to the surrounding towns of Corsham, Chippenham and the Historic City of Bath. The M4 is also just a short drive away leading to Bristol, the M5, Reading and London.

A highly regarded village surrounded by rolling fields, woodlands and countryside with the By Brook River meandering through the valley. A peaceful location with a great village community where you will be spoilt for choice with an array of walks, cycle rides or some beautiful peaceful locations. Local footpaths lead to surrounding villages, and within a twenty minute walk there are a choice of local public houses, serving food, with views over rivers, village greens or duck ponds.

The cottage is listed as 18thcentury but could be as early as the 17thcentury as, during renovations, a coin was found by the owners in one of the walls dated 1648!Sympathetically and lovingly renovated by the current owners, Highbank has been a family home for over twenty years. In fact, and in keeping with many Slaughterford residents the current owners plan to stay in the area.

Entry is via the front door into the Reception Hallway with a rather handy Utility Area to the side and doors that open to the Kitchen/Diner and Sitting Room.

The Sitting Room is spacious with duel aspect windows and an eye catching central fireplace fitted with a cast iron stove. A timber door encloses the stairs that lead to the first floor. The flooring is exposed timbers of English Elm which were the remaining stocks from the Biddestone Timber Mill.

The Kitchen/Dinner also has a duel aspect with windows to the side and rear overlooking the garden. There is a central chimney breast that now houses an electric oven (could also fit an Aga if so desired) and there is a gas hob to the side. A characterful room with exposed beams, quarry tiled flooring and an inset bread oven to the side too.

The first floor has a landing with exposed Oak floorboards and doors that open to both Bedrooms and the Bathroom. The loft is boarded with lighting and a ladder.

Bedroom 1 - a spacious room with windows to the front and rear. Exposed timber work and floorboards continued from the landing. There is an airing cupboard and ample room for a double bed with further bedroom furniture as desired. The second Bedroom is also double in size with some wonderful features. The bathroom also has exposed Oak flooring with additional Oak panelling. There is a Roll Top freestanding bath, w/c and vanity wash hand basin with storage beneath. There is also a corner cupboard.

Externally the rear garden has a charming cottage style design. A large private garden arranged with a split level, retained by a hand built dry stone wall. Mainly laid with lawn the garden also hosts a collection of assorted fruit trees and a vegetable patch. Furthermore, there are numerous outbuildings, a green house and storage sheds. Views to the rear of the garden extend across neighbouring farmers' fields that are currently used for grazing. Parking can be found on the lane with options to both the left and right hand side of the cottage. Alternatively, parking and storage (if required) can be hired at the nearby mill.

Our Client Says .
It has been a huge privilege to live in Slaughterford, it is a beautiful historic village with a great community. It is one of the last unspoilt villages in Wiltshire, peaceful yet still with a real village feel, it has two working farms and several businesses. It feels remote yet is only 15 minutes from the M4 and 1.5 hours from London. We bought 2 Highbank in 1996, spent 2 years renovating it ourselves and have lived here ever since. We watched our 2 boys grow up in the house and are now hoping to move, as a family, to a larger house just down the road. Highbank has been a fantastic home with a great garden and the children have been able to roam free and play in the river. The village has a fete each year and gets together for celebrations and events.
