About the area
North Barrow is a small village rather tucked away in rolling unspoilt countryside, yet having excellent access to many towns and locations. Castle Cary, the nearest town, is characterised by period buildings constructed of the distinctive honey coloured stone for which the area is well known. It remains a delightful small market town with a number of traditional shops and boutiques within the Conservation Area in which a policy of strict planning control operates to prevent inappropriate development. These shops cater for most everyday needs whilst Bruton, Glastonbury, Street, Wells, Frome, Wincanton, Sherborne and Yeovil are all close by and Salisbury, Taunton, Bath and Bristol are in easy commuting distance. On the outskirts of Castle Cary is the railway station with its direct line to Paddington (90 minutes.) Templecombe station is 11 miles south with its direct line to Waterloo. The A303 road link is just over 3 miles south.

*
There are excellent state and independent schools in the area including a number of village primary schools, Millfield, the Sherborne and Bruton schools, Wells Cathedral, Hazlegrove, Port Regis and St. Mary's Shaftesbury. On the sporting side there are several golf courses nearby, various equestrian activities including racing at Wincanton and Bath, and lots of other societies and clubs for a huge cross section of activities. The Old School is approached via the quiet country lane passing through the village. The house is set back from the lane behind generous gravelled parking areas and mixed hedgerow.

Accommodation
Built in 1860, The Old School, as the name suggests, was once a local school before it was split into two dwellings; now known as Boy's and Girl's. Conversion back into a single dwelling would be easy to achieve subject to obtaining the necessary consents. Alternatively either side could provide additional rental income if required. The house has local brick elevations with a slate roof and retains many of it's features including a stained glass window and ornate Victorian ridge tiles & fascia boards.

Boy's
A porch enters the main kitchen/dining/living room which is a generous room, perfect for entertaining, with clay floor tiles and a Clearview multi fuel stove set into a brick fireplace. The kitchen area has a good range of painted units set into wooden worktops. There is a large Rangemaster cooker, an integral dishwasher and larder for further food storage. Off the kitchen is a utility room with plumbing for a washing machine, space for an American style fridge freezer, sink and rear door. The sitting room is a fabulous room with bi-folding doors, opening across the entire outside wall, leading out to the seating terrace. The light floods in, creating a cracking room regardless of the season.

**
There are two double bedrooms on the ground floor, both well proportioned and serviced by the contemporary shower room adjacent. The shower room has stylish ceramic floor and wall tiles, a shower, w/c, basin and heated towel rail. A rear hall with French doors leads back into the main living rooms. On the first floor there is an incredible master suite and bathroom. The master bedroom has a partially glazed rear gable with French windows and a Juliette balcony which takes in the beautiful views over the gardens and fields beyond. In addition there is extensive wardrobe and eves storage. The bathroom is also well designed with Velux windows, bath, w/c and basin.

Outside
The garden is equally impressive as the house. The current owners have created a vibrant and colourful outside space with a huge variety of flowers, shrubs and mature trees. Immediately outside the sitting room is a seating terrace with pergola and climbing grape vine - the perfect spot to enjoy a BBQ in the summer. There are raised borders, a pond, vegetable patches, plenty of fruit trees and two greenhouses. The rest of the garden is laid to lawn with further trees and shrubs, beyond are fields and farmland. Within the garden is a shed and workshop, currently used as an art studio. At the front of the property is a large gravelled parking area for several cars. Exterior lighting and water.

Girl's
The property is entered via the front porch which opens into the sitting room. The sitting room is stunning with an open vaulted ceiling, exposed Victorian stud walling & beams and a multi fuel stove. As well as ample space to sit, there is also an area in which to dine. The kitchen has a good range of fitted units with laminate worktops. Integral appliances include a fridge/freezer, dishwasher, electric oven and hob. Within the kitchen there is ample room for a breakfast table. Leading off the kitchen is a large L-shaped conservatory which enjoys a fabulous outlook onto the garden with French doors leading onto the terrace. The master bedroom has a built in wardrobes and an en-suite shower room. The second bedroom could also serve as a study or hobby room if required. The main shower room has a large walk-in shower, basin, w/c and storage cupboard.

Outside.
To the right hand side of the house is a garage which could be made into living accommodation subject to obtaining the necessary consents. To the rear of the house is a stunning, fully enclosed garden. There is a splendid variety of flowers and shrubs and plenty of sunny spots in which to sit.
