Full description

Poughley Cottage is believed to date back to 1482 and it is said that Oliver Cromwell stayed there on the eve of the Battle of Newbury in 1642.

The cottage is full of character and has unexpectedly spacious accommodation with very good ceiling heights and room proportions. There are impressive inglenook fireplaces in both reception rooms, and beautiful original beams and doors throughout the house. The recent addition of a conservatory extension has created a lovely light kitchen and eating area overlooking the rear garden. The kitchen is well fitted with hand-made units, a large larder cupboard and a 2 oven Aga, as well as an electric oven and hob.

Upstairs, there are three good-sized double bedrooms, a large family bathroom and an en suite shower room, and there is excellent storage space with plenty of fitted cupboards.

Poughley Cottage is situated in the pretty village of Eastbury in the heart of the Lambourn Valley, an area renowned for its beautiful countryside and excellent walking and riding.

Eastbury has an active village community with a public house/restaurant, village hall, playing field and church. The larger village of Lambourn is just over a mile away, and offers a wider range of local amenities including a butcher, two supermarkets and a post office, as well as several restaurants. The nearby market towns of Hungerford, Marlborough and Wantage offer extensive shopping and leisure facilities.

Communications are excellent with stations at both Hungerford and Newbury, and good access to the M4 motorway (J14) and the A34 at Newbury.

There is a very good range of schools available in the area including Pinewood, St John’s Marlborough, Marlborough College and Downe

The garden at the front of the house is mainly laid to lawn, divided by a pretty lavender path leading to the front door. There are newly landscaped raised beds in the rear garden, together with a summerhouse and terrace area that catches the afternoon and evening sun.

To the side of the property there is a large gravelled parking area and a garage and useful
timber outbuilding, currently used as an office and store.
