Nut Tree Farm is in the small hamlet of Stoughton Cross which is in a quiet rural area just over a mile from Wedmore and about half a mile from Wedmore Golf Club. Stoughton Cross was a pilgrim stopover and still has a medieval stone cross and a holy well. It probably predates Christianity with the name Stoughton being of Celtic origins. Indeed Stoughton, Wedmore and the surrounding areas have a known history dating back well over a thousand years with the origins of Nut Tree Farmhouse understood to be early Elizabethan. This includes a small apple orchard, and woodland area, comprising ash, small and large leaved lime, poplar, medlar, gage, horse chestnut and wild cherry. The woodland creates a nature and people haven. The blackbirds singing in the spring, is a delight. And the wind break from the dense trees makes storms a breeze. There is a very large organic vegetable garden, with no chemicals used in the last 40 years. About 6 tons of horticultural silver grit sand has been added to break up the clay, and volcanic rock dust, making it workable throughout the year. Also, large quantities of compost and horse manure. It has been fenced to protect from rabbits, which needs some attention. The property sits within an ancient sacred site, and we believe has special healing and peaceful attributes.

The Saxon village of Wedmore is a delightful and extremely active centre and in many ways is an archetype of an English village. There are historic buildings including the medieval church next to an old coaching inn, a general store/newsagent, post office, butchers, chemist, various other interesting shops, plus pubs, restaurants and tea rooms.
