The Needwood Estate was owned by the Bass family of Burton on Trent brewing fame who also owned the nearby Rangemore Hall.

The Hall was later to be extensively rebuilt by Lord Burton in preparation for the visit of King Edward VII in 1902 after he had inherited it, together with the estate, from his father Michael Thomas Bass.

Byrkley Lodge, no longer in existence, was a most impressive mansion set in parkland of over 400 acres and with an estate of about 1,170 acres comprising numerous farms, houses and cottages, many of which have remained today after being sold off in July 1952.

Charyan can be included as part of this history; a beautifully converted two storey barn once part of Lord Burton’s stables and the Needwood Estate.

Part of the National Forest and Rangemore Parish, Byrkley lies amidst lovely pastoral countryside in a popular rural area of Staffordshire. The surrounding area is characterised by undulating farmland interspersed with mature mixed woodland. The hamlet of Rangemore arose because Michael Bass had need of a supporting community of employees and today the village is a popular residential area with its own church and school but has still remained pretty and completely unspoilt.

Additional land and stables available by separate negotiation.

In addition to the property is an excellent piece of grazing land, approx. 4.4 acres or thereabouts with a well-equipped timber stable block comprising three loose boxes, a good sized tack room and additional hay barn. Electricity and water are laid on and the land is separated into three equally sized paddocks with fenced and hedged boundaries. The land is level and free draining into a pond area and the vendor confirms they achieve approx. 120 bales of hay each year from one of the paddocks.

What the owners say…..

“Our house is deceptively large, very cosy and is definitely a family home plus being so rural; it has lots of open spaces for kids to run around safely. It is so quiet with no traffic noise and the private lane was one of the main things that attracted us to the property in the first place. In the summer evenings, you can sit out for hours under the stars and the garden is great for entertaining friends. The decked area in the summer is a favourite place for breakfast or just your morning coffee. It is south facing and a lovely sun trap but being just off the kitchen, you don't have to travel far for a top up! “
