Property Description

Full description

Two Chimneys House is full of charm and character and stands on the land that was originally part of the Quex Estate and Museum built by the famous explorer Percy Horace Gordon Powell-Cotton. Named after the two ornate chimneys a local landmark for the area, the property boasts many original features such as beamed ceilings, sash windows and fireplaces and wooden doors believed to have been taken from the Old Winter Gardens when they refurbished many years ago. Approached via a private driveway the property sits on a large plot, as soon as you open the original front door you get an idea of the space available, the property to the ground floor comprises two reception rooms one; with a floor to ceiling brick built fireplace, a study, utility room, kitchen, rear conservatory with electric blinds and a further conservatory to the side as well as a guest bedroom with en-suite facilities. The flexibility of the layout allows rooms to be used for whatever purpose is needed. Up the historic barley twist staircase there are five bedrooms arranged off the spacious landing and a large family bathroom with bath and shower facilities.
Externally the private driveway offers off street parking to the front for 3-4 cars as well as a large laid to lawn area with side access to the spacious rear garden with rockery and paved area perfect for alfresco dining. The driveway also continues alongside the property to a workshop, storage area which had planning permission for a double garage but has now expired.
Birchington town centre is a short drive away where you will find a good variety of shops, bars and restaurants as well as a mainline railway station providing regular services to London. The Cathedral City of Canterbury is approximately 14 miles away and there are good road links to London via the A299 Thanet Way and the M2 motorway.

The Vendor's View - I bought Two Chimneys 36 years ago with my parents, three years on from then we bought the adjacent campsite, developing it into a caravan park that was sold in 2015. Despite the park being nearby, our privacy has never been impacted and Two Chimneys remains an extremely quiet place to live. The surrounding grounds, original walls and privacy from a well-established hedge all add to the countryside atmosphere of living here.
Throughout the years we have upgraded our home while retaining its character, whether that is by improvements with a new kitchen or adding space with the conservatory or the garden room extension. It is a wonderful family home, with so much space that can be adapted into whatever you need it to be and we have always loved entertaining family and friends here. The garden and patio areas are fantastic for enjoying the warmer weather during the summer months and the living room is perfect for being together, with a cosy feeling.
Despite being in the countryside, Birchington high street is only a short drive away and has a great selection of independent shops, restaurants and pubs. Transport links around and out of the area are ideal, with the Thanet Way linking to Canterbury and London and there is of course the high speed train service to St Pancras. For local produce, you cannot beat the nearby Quex Farm Shop.
We have some fantastic family memories at Two Chimneys and I have very much enjoyed bringing up my children here, but now is the time for me to downsize as I am living on my own and would like to be closer to my family.
