Normanton on Soar is a picturesque village with good commuting to Nottingham, Loughborough, Derby, Leicester and East Midlands Airport and easy access to the M1 Motorway both north and south and the East Midlands Parkway situated at Ratcliffe on Soar providing park and ride facilities for passengers on the routes from Leicester to Derby and Nottingham. From the village centre, Butt Lane continues opposite The Plough pub. Following the lane northwards the entrance to the property can be found on the left hand side before the railway bridge. History It is understood that the property was built in 1888 for a prominent local land owner, J B Tidmass, who used Normanton House as his main residence. The house remained in his family passing to his daughter on his death. She married Sir Lambert Ward, a well-known Member of Parliament, who used the property as a summer house and hunting lodge, his main residence being in Cadogan Square, London. More recently the house was passed on to Lady Spearman, the granddaughter of the original owner who sold it to the previous owners in 1974, the first time it had passed out of her family. The current owners purchased the house in 1999.
