The Story

COLOURFUL WINDSOR
Oak Meadows dates back to the 1950s and sits on prestigious St Leonards Hill. Set on the River Thames, the town itself is, of course, known for its castle, which is believed to be the largest and oldest inhabited castle in the world. Windsor offers a rich mixture of history, culture and leisure facilities, as well as independent shops, high street names, restaurants, coffee shops and cafés. "We are not too far from the town centre here and like to walk in to go to the shops or visit the castle. We play tennis and golf in the area, and there is a swimming pool in Windsor." She adds: "We also like to walk in Windsor Great Park, which is very beautiful."

GLORIOUS GARDENS
Windsor Great Park also takes in The Savill Garden, Virginia Water, The Valley Gardens and the Long Walk and Deer Park. It dates back to pre-Saxon times and was used by William I as a hunting ground but was not defined as one large 4,800-acre until the 13th century. Today it includes historical monuments, ancient forests and stunning horticultural displays, as well as rare wildlife and plants. The Savill Garden was created in the 1930s and offers 35 acres of interconnected gardens. These include The Hidden Gardens, Spring Wood, The Summer Gardens, The New Zealand Garden, Summer Wood, The Glades, Autumn Wood and the Winter Beds. "We are very lucky to have such wonderful places to walk close by," she says.

GENEROUS LIVING SPACE
Oak Meadow sits in its own colourful grounds of just under half an acre. The owners managed to carry out their extension work without compromising their exquisite outside space. "We extended sideways at ground floor and first floor level," she explains. "We did have planning permission to come out even further upstairs but did not carry this out. However, this could be something someone else might wish to look into perhaps." The ground floor of the house already offers generous living space. The entrance hall opens into the sitting room and sun room to one side: this in turn leads into the dining room, where there is a hatch through into the kitchen.

COMFORTABLE HOME
The kitchen breakfast room, which has a larder and country cream units, can also be accessed from the hallway. This leads through into the huge drawing room, with its fireplace and doors on to the garden, and beyond this is a family room, which has its own entrance and en suite shower room and could therefore be ideal for a family member seeking some degree of independence from the rest of the household. It could also make a great gym, leisure space or home office. Upstairs, there are five bedrooms and two bathrooms. The master bedroom has a large en suite shower room while the other bedrooms share the family bathroom. "This is a very spacious home in which it is easy to accommodate guests comfortably," she says.

HAPPY TIMES
Indeed, the property has been perfect for entertaining. Friends and family have enjoyed its access from London, the M4 and the M25 and have relished its space when they have arrived. "With three children, we have had plenty of parties here over the years," she says. "We have had marquees in the garden for 21st birthday parties and celebrated my parents-in-laws' golden wedding, as well as my husband's 50th, 60th and 70th birthdays! It is a great entertaining space - and we will miss that when we leave." They will also miss their beautiful garden, with its apple, plum and apricot trees, and the immaculate lawn where children have played football and badminton over the years. "It is also nice just sitting outside quietly and watching the birds," she adds. "We see so many in the garden because of all the woodland in the area."

Setting The Scene

To the front there is a car port for two cars, a garage and a driveway with parking for several cars. The garden is planted with shrubs to provide privacy and year-round interest. The pretty rear garden is a feature of this property. There is paved terrace, which provides areas to enjoy outdoor entertaining. The borders are planted with a wide selection of flowering plants, shrubs and trees, which edge the manicured lawn. The garden is enclosed by a variety of shrubs and laurel and conifer hedging to provide a high degree of privacy.
