Full description

Yar Tor Cottage occupies a dramatic position high on Dartmoor, close to the West Dart River at Badgers Holt, Dartmeet. The open moor is literally on the doorstep and the nearby hamlet of Hexworthy has a pub, the Forrest Inn, tiny chapel and a primary school is available at Widecombe.

The town of Ashburton is a fifteen minute drive and offers a range of everyday shops and facilities including two butchers, bakers, post office, delicassen, newsagents, pharmacy and Coop store. It is also where the A38 can be joined for Plymouth, Exeter and the motorway network beyond.

Yar Tor Cottage was built on the site of a wooden bungalow and is substantially constructed of block and stone beneath a slate roof. The current accommodation could possibly be enlarged by converting the garage (subject to consents) which forms an integral part of the building. Additionally, there is a large basement area which can be accessed from stairs at either end of the property in the kitchen and garage, as well as from ground floor level outside.

The rooms overlook the garden or neighbouring common moorland and there is a modern oil fired central heating system.

The garden is on a sloping site and the current owners keep poultry on the lower area and there is a good sized patio terrace adjoining the rear of the property.

DIRECTIONS - Do not use sat nav
From the Shell petrol filling station at Peartree, Ashburton: Following the B3387 signposted Dartmeet/Princetown. Stay on this road for 6.7 miles (passing through Poundsgate onto the open moor) and an unmarked track will be seen on the right as you drop down the hill towards Badgers Holt car park at the bottom. Yar Tor Cottage is located down this unmarked moorland track. If you reach the Badgers Holt car park you have gone too far and turn around go back up the hill and the track will be seen after a short distance on the left.
