In This Area - By Walthamstow Diary - Blackhorse Road station sits at the junction of Blackhorse Road and Blackhorse Lane. The name is actually a mispronunciation of Black House, a grand old house that once stood near St James Street. Blackhorse Road runs through the heart land of the old Warner estate. If the road was an artery, then its veins are the quiet tree lined streets of red brick half house flats that lead off of many of it’s junctions. Have a wander down Edward Road and marvel at number 108. This beautiful tiled building is now flats, but was once part of Truman's brewery, it is simply glorious. Stoneydown Park is not only a great park with a kids’ playground, it is also home to a music festival. Every summer the Stoneydown Park festival fills the air with good music from local musicians, and fills our bellies with great food and nice cold beer. It’s completely free and personally speaking, one of my favourite events of the year. Just behind the park is Bonners fish bar, which according to some, is the best chip shop in Walthamstow. Quiet streets, good transport links, free music, and the best chippy, and fantastic schools to included the Ofsted 'Outstanding' Hillyfield Primary School. what more could you want.
