Full description

The Town Planning Estate (of which Douglas Terrace and therefore this house is a part) represents the last great hurrah of the Warner family as builders of residential properties in Walthamstow and Leyton. Constructed in stages (Douglas Terrace was circa 1930) it is situated on what was formerly Moon’s Farm. The property is ideally located for whatever happens to be on the “to do”list for the day. If it’s time with the kids, then head over to Lloyd Park and let them burn off some energy on the tennis courts or skate park. If it’s a bit of “me time” you’re after, then Lloyd Park also has plenty for the adults, with yoga, bowls, tennis (again), or just the peace and tranquillity of the William Morris Gallery. Suitably exhausted, why not head to The Bell for a bite to eat, or just further on to Yard Sale for a pizza or two – go on, you’ve earned it…

Living Here... - “The true secret of happiness lies in taking a genuine interest in all the details of daily life.” We aren’t sure how conversant the Warner family were with the writings of William Morris, but we would like to think that their attention to detail and philosophy of building good quality homes would have met with the great man’s approval. And that attention to detail continues with the wonderfully sympathetic refurbishment carried out by the current owner. We can remember when he bought this property, and the sheer amount of hard work and love that has been lavished upon it since then is truly remarkable. Stripped wooden flooring throughout adds both a feeling of warmth and light, as well as connecting each room to the next by the use of a single material. That is then counterbalanced by the vendor’s clever use of a vibrant colour palette, ensuring that whilst the flooring material connects the whole, the colour scheme lends each room its own individuality. We especially love the fireplace in the dining room, which although from a later period than the house itself, hints at the story of how this house has evolved over time since its construction. The bare-bones of a description of this house would tell you it has two reception rooms, kitchen, three bedrooms, family bathroom and garden, but that doesn’t even come close to scratching the surface of what this house is, which is an amazing example of a true Walthamstow classic, the Warner home. Seriously, if you think this house looks good in the photos, come and see it “in the bricks and mortar” – you won’t be disappointed…

In This Area - By Walthamstow Diary - William Morris was a Walthamstow lad, he lived in the Water House on Forest Road. His childhood home is now the William Morris gallery, the only gallery on the face of the planet dedicated to his life and work. Lloyd park, in which the gallery stands, is named after another former resident of the Water House, Edward Lloyd, a publisher of penny dreadfuls. As well as having a medieval moat, playground and a cafe, the park is also home to some great local events, including the May Day dog show which shouldn't be missed. The best dressed dog round is amazing, one year it had a Star Wars theme, staffie princess Leah's competed against AT-AT Great Danes, it was glorious. The park is surrounded by quiet streets of ex Warner properties, the bell pub is around the corner from the gallery, and the cafes of Hoe Street are just a short trot away. Give Wyndwood art district a go, this little cafe has a lot going on, including a running club and exhibitions. Tommys tuck in cafe, opposite the park, is a good spot for a hangover fixing breakfast. All this is only a fifteen minute walk from the station
