We’ve mentioned before how much we love Francis Road (and why wouldn’t we – we are based there after all). It’s full of interesting shops and equally interesting people, from Helen at Edie Rose and Louise at the soon to be opened yoga studio, to Aimee at Phlox Books and Dan and Eliza at Yardarm. But don’t be fooled into thinking this part of E10 is just about Francis Road (as great as it undoubtedly is)– there are lots of interesting things going on in the immediate vicinity that are sure to pique your interest too. Take Project 660 on the High Road by Leyton Midland station. Run by those caffeine maestros Perky Blenders, you can pop in for a coffee whilst dashing for the train, pick up their blend of the month, or even train as a barista in their training academy! It’s just the latest of many new businesses to start in the area. For instance, did you know that E10 now has three craft breweries, or that the Heathcote Arms is getting a makeover from those clever people at Electric Star (owners of the Leyton Star)? Everywhere you turn, something is happening. The area is constantly evolving, and we are always meeting new people when we are out and about. It’s what we love about E10, and what we think you will love about it too…
Living Here... - This is a house for all seasons. It would be a great place to entertain friends with a barbeque on the patio over the summer, but we also think it would be a fantastic house to be snuggled up in with the family on a cold winter’s evening, watching the TV with some popcorn. But we are getting ahead of ourselves – you haven’t bought the house (yet!) and we haven’t told you about it either. So, wander in through the front door, and the first thing you will notice are the beautiful stripped floorboards. These lead you into the bay windowed front reception (the perfect spot for that film and popcorn) and then on to the rear dining room, which has a beautiful 1930s fireplace - just one of many lovely period features in this home that reflect its long history. Directly off the dining room is the modern fitted kitchen, which makes these two rear rooms the perfect space for family dinners. Upstairs on the first floor are two double bedrooms and the family bathroom, as well as space on the landing which we think would make a lovely spot to relax in an armchair with a book. The second floor comprises two further bedrooms, one with an en suite shower room, thus ensuring this home has plenty of space for even the fastest growing family. The property is completed by the private rear garden. A home for all seasons and, we would venture, many (happy) years as well…
In This Area... - Leyton is home to the only shop that can be seen from space. OK, that's not entirely true, but the carnival shop on the high road is definitely bright. There's no way you'll miss this multi coloured wonder, it looks like it's made of Lego. The shop sits opposite coronation gardens, a beautiful park with a little maze, pond and fountain. Walk all the way through coronation gardens and you'll find Leyton beach, yep, that's right, Leyton beach, former training ground for beach volley ball teams during the 2012 olympics. The high road is also home to the Leyton technical, a lovely pub that occupies the ground floor of the old town hall. It has good beer, good food, and the longest walk to the toilet you'll ever find. If you like beer, Leyton is the place for you, as both Brodie's beers and the East London Brewing Company are based in E10. Sidmouth park, just behind the carnival shop, is a hit with kids as there's loads of stuff to play on. If you are hungry or thirsty, Wander to Francis road and you'll find a bucket load of nice cafes, including Yardarm, Marmelo Kitchen, and Albert & Francis.
