Full description

History was one of our favourite subjects at school, and this area comes with lots of local industrial heritage. In 1932 St Andrews Mills Ltd opened at 34 St Andrews Road. A decade later they created Androll, which they would later rename Andrex, and the rest, as they say, is history. The factory has long since closed, replaced by houses and flats, but the area continues to attract new start-up businesses, particularly in the creative sector, adding to the feeling that this is fast becoming one of the artistic centres of E17. Take, for instance, Blackhorse Workshop – it currently supports over 30 designers, carpenters, architects, furniture makers, lighting designers, sculptors (the list goes on!), as well as providing space for the public to undertake their own projects, or sign up for one of their many courses in woodwork, metalwork etc. Gnome House is another former industrial site, where they used to make lifts. It’s now a community hub, where you will find everything from pilates to dance and drama classes, as well as Inky Cuttlefish, an artist led printmaking studio which is available to the public. If however you aren’t as creative as some, then there’s still plenty to do around this area, whether it be a stroll around Higham Hill Park (visiting the Hub whilst your about it), Stories & Rhymes with the kids at Higham Hill Library, Sunday lunch at the Warrant Officer, or perhaps letting the dog take you on an extra long walk around the reservoirs. So whether you’re creative or not, you will never be short of something to do…

Living Here... - If like us the word DIY sends a chill down your spine, then this may very well be the house you’ve been looking for, because it has all been done for you, and to an exceptional standard. Everywhere you look in this two bedroom semi-detached house, the quality shines through, from the hardwood flooring, to the sleek gloss white kitchen units and integrated appliances, to the beautiful tiling in the bathrooms. The attention to detail is phenomenal, but don’t take our word for it – come and look for yourself. If you do, you will find a ground floor comprising open plan kitchen/diner/lounge (perfect for entertaining), plus a handy utility room and a WC. Upstairs are two double bedrooms (the main one bathed in light from the bay window, plus a stunning four piece family bathroom. The icing on this particular cake? That would be the lovely private rear garden, complete with large patio area for those essential summer BBQs. This house is ready to go, so pack away your tools and pick up the phone to book a viewing…

In This Area - By Walthamstow Diary - Blackhorse Road station sits at the junction of Blackhorse Road and Blackhorse Lane. The name is actually a mispronunciation of Black House, a grand old house that once stood near St James Street. The Victoria line at Blackhorse Road Station is five minutes walk away, getting you to central London in only 15 minutes. Nearby St James Street Station has regular trains to Hackney and Liverpool Street. The fantastic Forest Wines on Forest Road will keep you stocked in craft beer and organic wines and nearby Blackhorse studios offers a cafe and workshops. Local Stoneydown Park Primary School is just around the corner, rated as good by Ofsted. Stoneydown Park is not only a great park with a kids’ playground, it is also home to a music festival. Every summer the Stoneydown Park festival fills the air with good music from local musicians, and fills our bellies with great food and nice cold beer. Just behind the park is Bonners fish bar, which according to some, is the best chip shop in Walthamstow. Quiet streets, good transport links, free music, and the best chippy, what more could you want.
