THE PROPERTY Solidly built, with good-sized rooms and usually with big gardens too, former council houses make popular purchases, even more so if they are in sought after villages like Staverton. 8 Moor Road should be no exception to this rule, particularly as the owners have, in the six years that they have owned it, transformed it into the smart, modern house that it is today. This includes adding a mahogany framed conservatory, a new kitchen, a new cloakroom, a new fireplace and woodburner and transforming the parking and front and back gardens. There are also new solar panels and upvc double glazed windows. From the house and the upper part of the garden, there are fine views over open farmland and the Dartington Estate.

OUTSIDE In front of the house a well maintained grass garden has flower and shrub borders. To one side of the garden is a parking area for two vehicles. Buildings include a timber garden shed, a brick built store/workshop with casement window, light and power and corrugated roof, timber summerhouse with pitched and felted roof. The main garden behind the house has a gravelled terrace, a paved terrace outside the summer house, a lawn with shrub borders and a vegetable garden with a greenhouse and raised timber sided fruit and vegetable beds.

STAVERTON Staverton lies on the northern edge of the South Hams in the beautiful rural triangle between Totnes, Ashburton and Newton Abbot. The name Staverton or Stouretona means 'the village of stoney ford'. The ford, an ancient crossing many centuries old provided a route from the village to Dartington. In 1413 the very elegant Staverton Bridge was built. The village has a parish church, the well-known Sea Trout Inn, a primary school, St Christopher's Nursey and Preparatory School and playing fields with tennis courts. The surrounding countryside and the River Dart provide wonderful opportunities for the country enthusiast including splendid walks, riding and fishing. Close by are Dartington Hall, which has worldwide renown as a centre of excellence for music and the performing arts, and the acclaimed Riverford Field Kitchen restaurant. Together with Dartmoor to the west, the Devon Riviera to the east and the South Hams to the south, the area is host to a wide choice of recreational and sporting facilities. Both the A38 at Ashburton (3m) and the market town of Totnes (5m) are within easy reach. The sea is 12 miles away and the blue badge awarded Blackpool Sands beach is 16 miles.

HOW TO FIND IT Leave the A384 just north of Dartington, signposted Staverton. Cross the bridge over the Dart at the bottom of the hill and bear right after crossing the railway line. Continue into the village, and by the Sea Trout Inn bear right and immediately left into Moor Road where no 8 is towards the end and on the right.
