Located about a mile outside the town of St Austell is Charlestown, an amazingly pristine, unspoiled example of a Georgian working port. It was constructed between 1791 and 1801 by Charles Rashleigh, entrepreneur and member of the local landowning family, due to the growth of the local mining industry. Originally built to export copper and import coal, it was soon being used for the export of China Clay. It is from its creator that the the port gets its name.

To this day the port remains unspoiled and retains much of its Georgian character. This unique combination has lead to Charlestown being a popular location for film and television locations. Credits include Poldark, Hornblower and Mansfield Park.

The town of St Austell is only a short drive and supplies an extensive range of shops, schools and other facilities.

Upon entering the property there are many character features, the entrance hallway has a curved decorative archway and beautiful turning galleried staircase lit by a sash window with a deep sill and bespoke shutters. The lounge is well proportioned and benefits from an open fireplace and an attractive sash window looking down the front garden. The bespoke kitchen is well fitted and has been extended to create a good size kitchen/dining room with a characterful beamed ceiling and slate flagstone flooring. To the first floor the galleried landing is split level and the bedrooms are well proportioned all with sash windows and bespoke shutters, and there is a modern bathroom comprising of a white suite.

Externally the gardens have been superbly maintained and reflect the attention to detail by the current owners. The front garden is mainly laid to lawn and includes a seating area to the front of the property benefiting from a sunny aspect and a good degree of privacy. The rear garden is partly laid to lawn and also includes a seating area and an attractive slate roof outbuilding split between a store and outside toilet.
