HISTORY OF THE HALL The lower storey walls of the present Community Centre on this site are those of a Fisher circuit theatre which flourished between 1812 and 1844. In c.1855 it was demolished 'almost down to the ground level'.

New Assembly Rooms were built on these foundations 'and the pit and understage area became the basement'. From 1871 to 1912 the building served as church rooms and from 1912 to 1998 it was in various local government uses. A plaque on the front commemorates the Fisher ownership.

The Hall itself holds great historical value to the town and all building works have been undertaken with the guidance of the council in order to maintain and restore fully.
