WHY DID THEY FALL IN LOVE WITH IT? I asked the current owners why they chose this property. "The privacy. Directly behind is a small farm who have a few cattle and chickens, and to the right we don't really see our neighbours because there's only one small window on that side of the house. At the entrance are electric gates and fences all the way around, so we're really self-enclosed.

The deck at the back is very private, it's been the venue for many a BBQ and party.

The second thing that attracted us to the property was the layout. Our family were growing up and the layout really worked for us, giving everyone their own space as the home is on three levels. PEACEFUL AND HISTORIC LOCATION Ambergate is a nice rural and peaceful location with its roots in the 19th century. It has grown from what was a tiny hamlet into a substantially sized village. It was home to Europe's first fully operational electronic telephone exchange, which opened in 1966. The property owner tells me that during the Second World War there was an Italian prisoner of war camp just down the road, and quite a few artefacts have been found in the surrounding fields.

From one of the home's windows you can actually see the restored Grade II* listed Heage Windmill, the only working six-sailed stone tower windmill in England.

Even though its location is rural you are within around 200 yards of the nearest pub, The Spanker, perfect for a some great pub food, and it even hosts events. Also close by is The Hurt Arms and the local cricket ground. Belper is only a short distance away, with its river gardens and Cromford Mills, which is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site and is owned and managed by the Arkwright Society.

The nearest major town is Belper, although Ripley is only 10 minutes away and hosts several major high street stores. We've all got our own sections, but come together on the first floor."

I asked the owner what benefits he thought the home offered a family: "open plan living and fantastic relaxing views," he told me. "It's ideal for a family with older children as everyone gets their own space but then you can all be together as well.
