A bit of history, a display of heritage.

Glossop Road Baths was the first Public Baths in the town of Sheffield and was built with money from the Royal Infirmary's Surgeon General in 1836. This followed a major cholera epidemic killing 400+ Sheffield residents. The quest was on to educate the people of Sheffield about cleanliness and Glossop Road Baths was the catalyst.

Florence Nightingale previously attended lectures at the Baths about cleanliness as well as the association with the importance of clean water and the impact on health.

The second phase was built in 1877 and included two swimming Baths and the Turkish Baths. The Turkish Baths are now the oldest surviving example of a Victorian Turkish Baths in the world. Two more phases were built culminating in 1906 and the First Class Baths making three swimming baths in total.

The building was the equivalent of Ponds Forge today until the 1990's when it was closed to make way for Ponds Forge.

Between 1990 and 2000 the building was derelict and heavily vandalised. The vendors company acquired it in the year 2000, they restored and totally transformed the building into the current layout of 21 apartments and 3 A3 units (restaurants/pub) and the Turkish Baths (SPA 1877).

The apartments are all slightly larger than normal specifications and the larger ones have unique features from the original first class pool. These were used to host dances during the winter months with a dance floor suspended from the steel girders which were lowered onto the sides of the pool.
