The Dee is one of the most famous and beautiful salmon rivers in Scotland. It rises from two sources in Mar Forest, just below 4000 feet in the Cairngorm Mountains and drains an area of over 800 square miles. The river flows through Royal Deeside where there is an abundance of spawning ground and nursery areas. It continues through a variety of Highland and Lowland Scenery for over ninety miles before reaching the North Sea in Aberdeen.

The Ardoe and Murtle beat lies on the Lower Dee
where most of the fish caught are fresh and sealiced. Although along with many other Scottish rivers, catches in recent years have been disappointing, in the past the beat was renowned for its excellent Spring and Autumn runs and if The Dee returns to its former glory, Ardoe and Murtle should be among the first beats to benefit. The record Dee fish of 56lbs was caught on Ardoe water in the Autumn of I886.

Many of the individual pools are quite long and on
several of them more than one rod can comfortably
fish a pool. Some pools fish best in high water and
some in low water, offering good fishing in most
conditions. Working downstream the pools are as
follows:

MURTLE POOLS
Ferry House Stream, a good fly stream at low to
medium water levels.
Upper Heathcot, fishes best at low to medium water
levels.
Lower Heathcot, fishes best at medium water levels.
Ardoe Pool, situated opposite to Ardoe beat, the pool fishes well at all water levels.
New Pool North, a good pool at all water levels.
Cults Pool, fishes in all heights of water.

ARDOE POOLS
Greenbank Pool, this pool fishes in all heights of water.
Home Pool, a good fly pool in high water.
New Pool South, can produce fish at all water levels.
Island Pool, fishes well in all heights of water.
Shakkin Bridge Pool, a good pool in low to medium
water levels.

FISHING SEASON
The Dee opens on 1st February and closes on 30th
September.

GHILLIE
There is a full time ghillie, who under TUPE regulations will be taken on by the purchaser.
