The Barn could possibly have origins dating from the 8th century being situated on the northern edge of Cerne Abbas and believed to have predated the site of the adjacent Benedictine Abbey by at least 100 years and possibly more. The present building was built in the 18th Century as a “Cruciform Barn” on the mediaeval footings, formerly known as North Barn, but now known as Beauvoir Court. The barn is a Grade II* listed building and is located off of a no through lane, close to the 'Cerne Abbas Giant'. The elevations are a mixture of Greensand and chalk-block under a tiled roof, with adjacent stable block and a second separate barn, known as the South Barn, within the paddock which are both unlisted. The North Barn had been converted by a previous owner but the present vendors now have approval planning permission (WD/D/15/002165) and approval of listed building consent (WD/D/15/002166) for 'Internal alterations and the extension of Beauvoir Court to form a dwelling by reconfiguration of the ground and first floor layouts. New western porch, alteration of eastern porch, alteration of existing windows and single new window opening to the western elevation, replacement windows and doors to all other existing openings'. The current plans show a wonderful open plan living area with curved balcony over, a semi basement, cloakroom, 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. The existing accommodation includes a kitchen, bathroom, reception room and 2 bedrooms but this is subject to a previous planning permission which linked home and business use. Implementation of the new permissions will allow the North Barn to be used entirely for Residential purposes. The Deed of Variation will allow the stables and courtyard to be used as ancillary residential use to North Barn but this will be subject to a planning consent from WDDC. Approached though a pair of timber gates giving access to a large courtyard with the barn and stable block, the grounds which extend to approximately 1.6 acres (0.34 hectares) to provide a private setting for this historic property.

Cerne Abbas is a popular village in the heart of Thomas Hardy's Dorset and is surrounded by rolling hills and countryside. The village is probably most famous for its Giant carved into the chalk hillside, but also has many places of interest including an ancient church, medieval abbey, Tudor cottages, a tearoom, village shop and three pubs. There is also a primary school and a doctors' surgery. A bus service runs to the towns of Dorchester, Sherborne and Yeovil.
