Property Description

Key features

  • The sea is captivating at any time of year. Angry winter seas are magnificent to watch and sparkling calm summer waters are soothing to admire.
  • One of the best things about living at Anchorage, apart from the views of course, is it's location. Not only are you right beside the sea, but you feel as though you have a countryside retreat w
  • It is a joy to potter in the back garden and be able to hear waves lapping. Mowing the lawn never feels like a chore with these views. In the garden is one of my favourite places to be.

Full description

Tenure: Freehold

With links to royalty including Queen Victoria, Sidmouth has long enjoyed a special reputation. The nobility of London built houses here and John Betjeman raved about the place. Sidmouth sits at one end of England’s first natural Heritage Site, the Jurassic coast, and you can step out of your front door from this house and enjoy the coastal path in moments.

Well within walking distance too, are all the distinctive, individual shops and businesses that thriving Sidmouth has to offer. There is always a buzz here, and plenty to entertain you on land as well as by sea.
Why not come and see some of what this lovely six-bedroomed house has to offer. Park your car outside and step inside.

You will quickly become aware that there are views from virtually every room, either direct to the sea or back over the hills behind. Imagine watching the constantly changing light in the sky and on the water, or taking time to enjoy the views from the garden, as the sun sets. Even better perhaps when shared with family and friends.

Here the light streams all around, the perfect spot for a Sunday morning coffee with your friends when it isn’t yet warm enough to sit on the large patio or in the garden. Nice spot to get up to speed with what has been happening in the big smoke via the Sunday papers.

Now put the paper down and come through to the dining room, this one adjoins the kitchen and has a relaxing country feel to it. Can you see yourself calling the family down from the four corners of this home to share a meal together around a large table?
But let’s return to what this fine old house has to offer. Discover the elegant sitting room, more than 20 feet long, with a fine feature fireplace. Perhaps you too can see your piano in this room, family celebrations, a Christmas carol sing song perhaps?

A beautiful arched doorway, leads you through to the garden room, ideal for parties in the garden. Another arched doorway, one of the handsome features of this house, with French doors lead you out to that patio. Irresistible on a sunny day.

The kitchen breakfast room is huge, bright, well equipped and waiting to help you keep everyone well fed. A staircase to one side links to two of the upstairs bedrooms. A utility room next door allows you to keep some of the household washing clutter out of sight and the kitchen also leads though to a wonderful boot room, ideal for getting ready for that coastal walk.

Have you seen enough of that view? Probably not, but maybe you want to see what the rest of the house looks like. Six bedrooms and three bathrooms await your discovery upstairs, plus a little balcony just in case you want a slightly different perspective of the bay.

Four of the bedrooms have sea views from splendid bay windows, and if you draw the short straw, and have a room on the other side, then shimmy through onto the landing, slip out the door to the balcony and breathe in that sea air once more.

What better setting for that statement bed, or maybe you want to maintain the period look and will dress this room to fit the era of the house, with lovely old pieces from local antique shops. The main landing also leads to the second largest of the bedrooms, this one also enjoying some of the best views from the house, and a mere tip toe along the landing from a splendid grey and white bathroom which also has views – this time over the town and local hills.

Other doors from the main landing link to two further bedrooms, one south facing and adjoining the balcony while one north and then on to the final two bedrooms, which link directly to the kitchen by a rear stairway. Great shortcut for a sleepy teenager late for breakfast and needing to catch the school bus!

You may have been itching to get out to that garden to see if those views are as good as you think they are, and we won’t hold you back a moment longer. The garden is a great space to enjoy summer games on the lawn with an amazing backdrop of the bay and the cliffs beyond, or simply, do as the current owners do, set up seats, with something to lean on or to rest a glass on, and ogle at that million dollar view.
Out and about.....
Life in this town never stops, there is a folk festival, a literary festival, a sea festival, a walking festival and a science festival. If you are sporty then you are spoilt for choice too, so many activities to choose from. August is regatta time and the prestigious Red Arrows help add to the celebrations. There are wonderful gardens to explore in the town and a thriving theatre and museum. Even an observatory. There are Sunday evening concerts and even a Boxing Day swim for the brave.

If you have children or grandchildren, the beach is a must, and the sand is great for building sandcastles, (when the tide is out). Or take them sailing or fishing, or even simply walk along the promenade and enjoy an ice cream. There are both primary and secondary schools in Sidmouth, all of which have ‘good’ Ofsted reports and there is also an international school.

The town is within easy reach of splendid Exeter, with its main line connections with London Paddington and just half an hour from the regional airport with its domestic and international flights.
