The Story

NATURAL LIGHT
Internally, Mayfield offers four reception rooms, five bedrooms and three bathrooms. “It is a big house and it has an attractive kitchen, which I liked as soon as I saw it,” the vendor recalls. “I spend a lot of time in the kitchen and it was important to me that it was spacious and well fitted out.” The property was so well finished that the owner has done very little to change it over the years. “I have, of course, redecorated, and I have also had some of the bedrooms fitted out with wardrobes.” they add: “This is a very light house and I have chosen to keep many of the rooms quite pale in colour.”

COMFORTABLE LIVING
The kitchen, which features a large central island, complete with breakfast bar, white high gloss units and black work surfaces, remains one of the owner’s favourite places in the house. “It is perfect for cooking food and family meals,” the vendor says. “When my friends come round they can sit up at the breakfast bar and chat to me while they have a cup of tea.” The conservatory is also a pleasant place to sit but has doubled as a gym in recent years. “I like going out to the gym but keep equipment in here too for when the weather is bad,” they explain. They add: “The other room I really like is my bedroom, which has its own bathroom and television and so feels very self-contained.”

PARTIES BY THE POOL
With so much space, Mayfield has been a great place to entertain. The large drawing room is ideal for family gatherings during the colder months while the conservatory and garden come into their own in the spring and summer. The current owner had the swimming pool, which has a telescopic cover, installed after buying the house and it has subsequently given the whole family great pleasure. “In the summer, of course, we can keep the doors open and people can wander outside. When the children were younger we had lots of pool parties here.”

OUT IN THE PARK
Proximity to beautiful Black Park has also given the family immense joy. Covering 530 acres of woodland, heath land and grassland, this outdoor area includes an avenue of mature pine trees, an orienteering course, a lake dug in the 18th century as a reservoir for a local family and a lakeside café. There is also a Go-Ape activity centre, with climbing rigging and zip lines between the trees. Because of its location next to Pinewood Studios, there are also special cinematic trails which take visitors through areas where scenes of films such as The Crying Game, Dracula and Goldfinger where shot. “We used to enjoy cycling over to Black Park when the children were young,” the vendor recalls.

EXCELLENT LOCATION
The location of Mayfield offers good access to all the facilities of Gerrards Cross, including the station with its fast trains into London. “It is also very easy to get into London by road or to travel across the country because we are close to the M25 and the M40,” the owner observes. “Access to Heathrow Airport is also superb, which is perfect for anyone who has to travel for work or leisure purposes.” The nearby village of Fulmer is also very popular for its balance of countryside appeal and convenience. There are several annual events in the village, including Fulmer Day in June and Bonfire Night fireworks celebrations. “This location has been ideal for me for all this time,” they admit. “I am only moving now because the children are no longer at home but I will take lots of very happy memories with me when I leave.”

Setting The Scene

Mayfield is set back, with a large drive providing off-road parking for several vehicles. The property has a private gated entrance and a detached double garage. To the rear, there is space for outside dining and entertaining on a terraced area. The outdoor swimming pool is also a great asset and has a telescopic cover.
