PROPERTY SUMMARY This architect-designed home retains many of its original features and is a charming example of its period. It featured in the Daily Mail Book of House Plans 1957 where it was praised for its quirky turret entrance, extensive use of wood and curved lines in walls and central staircase, all of which remain today. The current owners have added modern comforts to the kitchen and living space with a large outdoor entertaining area. Surrounded by 1.2 acres of landscaped garden, and set back at the head of a tree-lined driveway, this is a country haven on the edge of town - a perfect spot for peaceful living with easy access to local amenities, the motorway and the London train. The house has a charming turret entrance hall, with something enchanting about both the architecture and the setting which is peaceful and the garden is an array of colour all year round. The house has been recognised as a classic example of the best architecture of its day since it was built in the late 1950s. It featured in the Daily Mail, where there was a write-up and photographs of the house, describing and illustrating many of the individual original features that remain today. The majority of the downstairs has the original wooden flooring, and there's a great deal of lovely warm wood throughout the house, from the dividing doors between the sitting room and dining room, to the wonderful cupboards in the bedrooms. A favoured feature is the curved wall of the staircase, which spirals up, seeming to open up as it does so and culminating in a wonderful circle of the same wood that features throughout in the arched doors. The only feature that has really changed since the 1950s description is that you can no longer see right out to Farlington marshes and the Solent from the property, as the mature trees have grown up to make this feel like a secluded and private space that's tucked away in the country. Old Bedhampton has a great feeling that you can be anywhere in the countryside, yet you are close to all local amenities should you need them. The area has a real rural and village-like feel with its stream and peaceful atmosphere, once you drive out to the main road though, you can reach Havant in a couple of minutes with its shops, schools and the train to London which takes just over an hour. The grounds of Bidbury Lawn stretch to over an acre, with the eponymous lawn sweeping out to the front of the property to the side of the impressive driveway, which is reached by remote controlled gates and lined with eucalyptus and palms and a even a carved owl out of the cherry tree, ample parking and a turning area at the top as well as a detached double car port, there is also a working garden, a greenhouse and plenty of storage in two garden sheds, this working garden is hidden from the newly added entertainment area by a rosy brick wall, which also provides shelter, allowing guests or family to focus on the main garden when dining or sitting out, or when using the hot tub.
