Description

Hill Cottage is a substantial and extremely distinctive oak frame country house very much in the manner of a traditional English Cottage. Set in a fabulous location with far-reaching views of the beautiful Corvedale. The house is approached over a cattle-grid and sits in delightful gardens and grounds.

The large oak front door opens onto the lovely entrance hall with exposed beams, from which visitors are treated to several welcoming reception rooms to choose from. The first is a gracious drawing room, heated by a ‘Clearview’ log burner and with French windows leading onto the terrace and gardens with truly breath-taking views
of the distant countryside, as far as Ironbridge.

In the dining room there is a large traditional inglenook fireplace containing a ‘Clearview’ multi-fuel log burner and many exposed beams, as well as French windows leading onto the terrace and gardens. A most convivial sitting room can be found also with exposed beams, an inglenook fireplace with log burner. Further, there is a most useful fitted home study with 16mb-20mb broadband.

The splendid kitchen/breakfast room is a fully fitted McPherson Lees kitchen in a modern ‘Shaker’ style with underfloor heating having been added a number of years ago. There is a central island with granite worktop containing a NEFF electric oven and calor gas hob, there is also an additional 3-door electric AGA oven, integrated fridge, freezer, drinks fridge and a dishwasher. The kitchen/ breakfast room opens onto a magnificent oak and glass garden room, which in turn leads onto the terracing and gardens.

From the entrance hall the carpeted staircase leads upstairs to the first floor, where the spacious master bedroom suite can be found, with a triple aspect view of the surrounding countryside, built-in wardrobes, en-suite bathroom with separate shower and heated towel rail. There are four further generous double bedrooms, each with wonderful views and TV points - and benefitting from an assortment of built-in wardrobes, storage and an airing cupboard. One double bedroom has an additional en-suite bathroom and another has an additional en-suite shower room. Furthermore, the property has a separate area that could be closed off for extra privacy if required.

Visitors to Hill Cottage will be delighted to find that the charming garden is mainly laid to lawn, with established planting beds containing roses, poppies and peonies, as well as a variety of fruit tress including cherry, pear and apple and wisteria growing along part of the exterior. There is also a fenced kitchen garden where berries and fruit is grown.

There is a log-store and ample parking on the gravelled area for the convenience of all. The whole property is bordered by mature hedging and, as everwith this enchanting property, the views are simply gorgeous.

“From Clee to heaven the beacon burns
The shires have seen it plain,
From north and south the sign returns
And beacons burn again.”

Location

Hill Cottage is located in one of the most delightful areas in South Shropshire and commands fantastic views over the Corvedale and surrounding countryside. The Down can be found just off the A458 (Bridgnorth Road). It is conveniently situated for Ludlow and Shrewsbury, the M54 motorway and wider West Midlands’ conurbation, with easy access to the M40 via the M5 (jnct 4) yet the property offers the opportunity for an idyllic rural lifestyle.

The surrounding countryside offers many recreational opportunities, with a number of renowned walks and rides nearby; one can walk from Hill Cottage to Bridgnorth across open fields. There are many popular pubs (some with rooms to rent) and many good schools both independent and maintained.

Bridgnorth (3.3 miles) and Ludlow (19 miles) are both wonderful South Shropshire market towns which have a wide range of independent shops and amenities, whilst nearby Stourbridge and Wolverhampton have main-line train stations. Alternatively, Shrewsbury and Birmingham are also within easy travelling distance for a non-stop rail service to London, which can also be reached by car in approximately 2.5 hours.

Square Footage: 3,798 sq ft

Directions

From Bridgnorth continue out of the town on the A458. At the roundabout, take the 1st exit onto the B4364 – Ludlow Road.
Continue to follow B4364 for approximately 3 miles. Look out for a turning left, to Eudon Burnell and take this turn. If you get to The Down Inn on your right hand side you have gone too far. Continue down the lane, passing a farm and up a slight hill. On your left hand side you will see a track which splits. Take the right hand fork, over the cattle grid. Hill Cottage is at the top of the track over a second cattle grid.
