This family home is little short of amazing. Hidden at the end of a small private lane off Elfed drive, the home comes as a total surprise. Surprise because of not only its location but also its sheer scale. There are other four bedroom detached houses that appear miniature by comparison and finished to nowhere near this standard. Interested?...then read on.

Approached via a small tree-lined lane, the home sits in a wooded area secluded from prying eyes and offering a level of privacy rarely found this close to a town centre. There is extensive parking space to the front and one side of the home and a small porch offering shelter over the front door with its tall picture window giving light to the stairwell.

Entering through the front door puts us in an impressive square hallway with what I think is Karndean type wooden flooring, with the hard wearing nature expected of it. To our right is a cloakroom with hand basin and lavatory, ideal for somewhere to store wet shoes and coats. Looking up, the landing is visible, reminiscent of a minstrel’s gallery and making the most of the light coming from the tall window at the foot of the stairs.

Moving clockwise around the hall we now come to a large sitting room facing the front of the home. I say sitting room but obviously, its use is a matter of choice, shown by its current status as a games room. Here, the scale of this home begins to become apparent as it houses a large settee, opposite a TV and gaming console and still leaving sufficient space for a pub sized pool table, positioned so that no walls interfere with the cues.

Leaving here and crossing the hall, another door beneath the stairs leads us into the principal lounge. This is a very comfortable place to be; a large room with a living flame effect electric fire to supplement the gas combi powered central heating and a big bay window to maximise the natural light. The cosy feel of this room is further accentuated by the wall mounted up-lighters and central lighting cluster.

Adjacent to here is the door to the truly stunning kitchen/sitting/dining room. Yes, I know. It sounds odd but in the flesh, it works amazingly well. Starting at the kitchen end, we find a ‘U’ shaped work space with tiled floor and a comprehensive set of high-quality units with gas hob/electric fan oven combination. On the other side of the dividing arm of the ‘U’ there is a comfortable sitting area with a settee and armchair with occasional tables and a double set of patio French doors overlooking the rear garden. This sounds an unusual concept but really does work and after all, everyone spends the majority of their family time in the kitchen,,,,so you may as well be comfy!

Beyond the sitting area is an archway, leading into the dining room where the floor again reverts to wood laminate for practicality and comfort. This in turn is a large room, easily swallowing a full sized 6 seater table and chairs while leaving ample space to move around, so there is no danger of the serving maid getting in the butler’s way…..

At the other end of the kitchen, there is a half glazed door leading into a very large utility room housing everything that Jeeves could need for an easy life, freezers, fridge, andvoids for washer, dryer. There's a sink unit, and even a second downstairs cloakroom to make life beneath stairs a little more comfortable.

From here is a half glazed back door leading into the rear garden.

A paved area runs the full width of the home and following this to the left brings us to a square patio with space for loungers, and a full dining suite for those long summer evenings beside the brick built BBQ, for your friends and family, who no doubt, will be joining you here in droves for some alfresco dining.
While the adults chill with a glass or two of wine, the younger family members can disappear into their own world, as there is an impressive wood constructed wendy house. I’m sure some modern builders are marketing houses no bigger than this and, as a place for a child to let their imagination run riot, it is nothing short of brilliant. At the other end of the garden is a fenced off area where the current owners had a large set of swings and slides, now dismantled as their own children have flown the nest. There is also a large shed for storage.

Back inside and climbing the imposing staircase to the mezzanine style landing we come to the master bedroom. This is a stunning room, offering a level of space rarely found in houses today, further accentuated by a large set of fitted wardrobes with mirror doors and in turn, leading to its own en-suite. Although this is no normal en-suite, being of a size that many lesser homes would be calling the family bathroom. It offers the usual hand basin, lavatory and shower cubicle with mains powered shower and an enormous fitted cupboard for all those little bottles to make us smell pretty.

Next along the landing, is the actual family bathroom. This is unashamed luxury, tastefully tiled with another mains powered shower, bath, hand basin, lavatory, and bidet, it's just a little bit special.
Now comes the smallest of the bedrooms, although ‘small’ is always a relative term. This, in most homes, would be called a comfortable double room and it is just that.

The two remaining bedrooms are, as is the common theme with the rooms in this home, spacious and airy. Indeed this is the overriding feeling throughout this lovely family home; one of all the family being able to get on with their lives, without being under one another’s feet, yet with delightful spaces to draw them together when the time is right. As I said earlier, this home is very special.

All in all this is a home that is full of surprises. To find something on this scale so close to a town centre and yet feeling so remote from it, something with enough space to allow a family to thrive and indulge themselves in their own pursuits, something in this sort of condition, something this close to schools, shops and amenities, something this accommodating to the needs of children and adults alike, something that simply feels so much like home is not merely surprising, it is a real find.
