Tenure: Leasehold

This delightful apartment must be one of Canterbury City centre's best kept secrets. Virtually on the high street and only 30 seconds walk from the main Christchurch Cathedral gates and the Buttermarket, it is on the top floor of what used to be the beautiful old Grade II Listed Boots the Chemist's building on the corner of Mercery Lane and the High Street. At the same time, although it is in the very centre of the city, when you walk into the flat you can immediately feel the calm, peace and surrounding quietness and the only thing that reminds you that you are in the midst of the city are the stunning views across the charming rooftops of the historic part of Canterbury to the Cathedral.

Although incorporated into the Grade II Listed building this top floor apartment was actually built in 2010 and has all the attributes needed for modern day living including an audio and a visual door entry system. All the rooms flow easily off the corridor that ends with the very attractive open plan light and bright kitchen/living/dining room under a vaulted and beamed ceiling with skylights, oak flooring and french doors opening onto a Juliette balcony. This provides lovely views over the large communal decked patio below and across to the Cathedral. The trendy kitchen area includes a gas hob, a self cleaning oven, microwave, dishwasher, fridge freezer, waste disposal unit and wine cooler as well as a filtered water tap.

There is a good sized family bathroom with a bath and large double shower as well as a utility/laundry room. There are two double bedrooms including the master with its wall of fitted wardrobes and it also has french doors to a Juliette balcony, so you can sit up in bed having your morning coffee looking out to the Cathedral. There is very easy access to one of the two lofts available to the apartment so there is plenty of useful storage facilities. The secluded communal decked terrace is accessible from a lower floor. It is surrounded by colourful raised flower beds and is ideal for sun bathing, al fresco dining and meeting friends for drinks in the summer.

What the Owner says:

“We found this wonderful apartment almost by accident some six years ago and couldn't believe that there was such a special place in the very centre of Canterbury. We have loved our time here and the fact that we can go to the theatre, cinema and a very wide variety of restaurants without ever having to worry about taking out the car. The retail outlets are superb, whether you are looking for a well known high street store or a small, individual shop there is something for everyone as well as the regular market along the pedestrianised high street. If friends come to visit it is delightful to be able to take them around the historic sites and we shall definitely miss everything that we have enjoyed here over the past few years. However, our family situation has changed and we feel we need to move to be able to help out with our grandchildren and hope that new owners will enjoy this place as much as we have.”
