Even to this day it still takes my breath away."

It's absolutely beautiful throughout and features a wealth of very classic Victorian features, but it's a house that has been refurbished with modern family living in mind, so we have this fabulous open-plan kitchen-and-breakfast room, which is a wonderfully sociable space; each of the bedrooms has an en suite and we even have an indoor salt-water swimming pool, which is a feature that we have all absolutely loved. It's without doubt a very large and impressive house but there's a comfortable flow from room to room so somehow it doesn't feel overwhelmingly big, and it has a really warm and welcoming feel throughout. I love absolutely everything about it."

"The gardens and grounds are definitely a standout feature of the property and have been an absolute paradise for our children," continues the owner. "They do forest school activities, build dens and camp out in the wood, and they quite literally have acres of space to run around and play in and it's all extremely safe and secure. We have open lawns, a small lake and countless lovely places to sit out, relax and entertain and because of our elevated position the views are absolutely breathtaking. It's such a lovely setting and there's so much to do here that during the holidays, as long as the fridge is stocked, there's no real need to go anywhere else. It's the most amazing place to call home."

Favourite Room: "It's almost impossible to choose a favourite room because they are all so beautiful," says the owner. "The kitchen is the real heart of the home and where we sit around our huge table and put the world to rites, but the room that for me has the real wow factor is the master suite. It has a huge bedroom, a living room area that opens out onto the balcony, a large dressing room and bathroom. We've had it all beautifully refurbished so it looks like something out of an interior design magazine. I know I'm really going to miss it when we leave."

What is your favourite aspect of the grounds or surrounding area? "I think what we've always loved about the setting is the fact that within the house and grounds you really do feel a million miles from anything or anyone," says the owner. "However, there's a shop just a mile down the road or we can hop in the car or even the steam train a quarter of a mile from our property which travels to Totnes. Totnes is a lovely little town that has everything you could need."

Interesting Point: "As well as a sizable garden apartment that we currently rent out for holidays, we've also just applied for a licence to hold small wedding ceremonies in our very elegant drawing room so there's great potential to be able to generate a small income from the property."

What you'll miss? "What will I miss most when we leave? I would say the whole experience of living here. It really is a place quite unlike any other," says the owner.
 

STEP INSIDE The sweeping driveway opens up to the impressive frontage of this beautiful property. Double doors open into a very impressive entrance. Oak panelling and with a galleried landing, it certainly has the wow factor and gives a fabulous first impression.

The layout works incredibly well and the living spaces all flow from the reception hall. On the left is the drawing room- a beautifully elegant room with two pairs of French doors leading onto the terrace. There is also a large bay to the front. To the right side of the reception hall is the Snooker/Play room. This would also work well as a formal dining room if it was required as it has a door in from the kitchen. The remaining acreage is made up of woodland, lawns and the lake. The lake is stream fed and so there are lovely pathways to walk following the stream down through the grounds and woodland. There are lots of seating areas and spaces to get peace and tranquillity. You really can switch off and relax here very quickly.
