Cattistock has been a sporting village for hundreds of years, hence the home of the Cattistock Hunt. And it perhaps naturally follows that the village pub is alive and well after at least three centuries!
Stocklands was built in 1988 and sits handsomely in a very pretty garden, looking across to Norden Hill.
The vendors describe Stocklands as a “modern cottage” and have updated and decorated to reflect this. There are oak veneered cottage doors and practical flooring in the hallway and kitchen – perfect when returning from a walk in the countryside!
The hallway opens to a STUDY ensconced in a corner of the house where it feels private and has an air of purpose to it. Also tucked away is a downstairs CLOAKROOM.
The KITCHEN has been designed for “day to day” meals and is very light and airy. There is a water softener and spaces for all the usual utility appliances. A generous hatch in the kitchen looks over the DINING ROOM, making it possible to cook and be involved socially in gatherings too. Whilst the dining room is cosy, it has also been host to a number of large family meals – Christmas parties of up to ten have been known!
The SITTING ROOM is also light and has a very pretty cream coloured log burner, which sits under a stone fireplace, creating an attractive focal point. Doors open out to the “most used” place in the house: the GARDEN ROOM. As it runs the width of the house, it catches both the morning sun for a coffee stop, and is an equally pleasant spot for supper in the evening.
Upstairs there are FOUR DOUBLE BEDROOMS and a FAMILY BATHROOM. There is a bath with a shower over, hand-wash basin, and WC. The master bedroom has views out to the hills and beyond, and a shower ensuite, also with hand-wash basin and WC.
The second double bedroom is large and characterful, with views over the village and hilltops beyond. It has built-in wardrobes making it a very practical space.
The remaining bedrooms are smaller double rooms, one with a built-in wardrobe and both with character and appealing views.
Stocklands has entered into the ‘Open Gardens’ scheme in the summer and it is easy to see why. It really is a place to relax and admire. Driving across the shared driveway, and parking in front of the DOUBLE GARAGE you will see a favoured bench that is used as a reward after a hard day!
The well-stocked garden wraps around the house and also has lawns to be enjoyed.
Lying within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and outside the Conservation Area of the ever-popular village of Cattistock: one of a small handful of villages which has retained its amenities which include a pub (serving locally sourced food), shop with post office, church, village hall, and cricket pitch. Maiden Newton, 2 miles away, has a doctor’s surgery, first school, railway station and garage. The Jurassic coast is approx 20 minutes’ drive away.
Take the A37 Dorchester to Yeovil Road. Having passed through Grimstone, continue on the A37 for a few miles. Shortly after the left hand turning signed to Maiden Newton, take the next left signposted to Cattistock. Follow the road down the hill and at the junction, turn left and follow the road through the village. Go past the pub and after a sharp right-hand bend, the property will be found on the right-hand side.
