THE STORY

Sitting out in their beautiful garden, the family like to watch the deer and their fawns roam between the trees. "We see deer most mornings," Stacey admits. "It is so peaceful here that thereis lots of wildlife, yet we are within easy reach of Ascot, a variety of supermarkets and good schools. We can pick up the M3 easily and get to central London and airports quickly. There are great places to eat nearby and it is not far to the Lexicon centre, with its excellent shops. It offers the best of all worlds: you can go off to work for the day or into busy London and afterward you can return to this beautiful garden, which is always wonderfully quiet."

AMONG THE TREES

Indeed, it was Tagra's unique setting that first appealed to the couple some 12 years ago. Set in approximately three acres of land, and surrounded by woodland featuring many protected trees, the property is something of a rarity. "It is so unusual to find a house like this within such spacious and private grounds. It is approached via a country lane, which is barely noticeable if you do not know it is there, and the only people really to come down it are those of us who live here." Built approximately 22 years ago, the house has always been a much-loved family home. "There were others interested when we bought it, but the previous owner chose us because we had one small child and another one on the way," she recalls. "She said she had grandchildren who loved the garden and she could see our children enjoying it just as much."

HIGH QUALITY FINISH

As soon as they stepped inside the house itself, the couple knew what they wanted to do with it. "It was a beautiful home, but we wanted to update it and rearrange it to suit our own needs: we created a porch, added a car port and moved the kitchen into one of the larger rooms. We reorganised the living space to give the children a snug where they could watch television and we now also have an office downstairs." A new kitchen, with features such as Neff appliances, a central island, built-in coffee machine, two wine Fridays and a boiling water tap, was fitted. Bathrooms were upgraded and storage and dressing areas were created. "We wanted this to be a very practical, comfortable and easy house for a large family to live in," she adds.

STREAMING SUNSHINE

Today the ground floor is entered via the lobby and spacious reception hall. "You go up a few stairs from here and there is a huge window, which goes right up to the first floor, bringing the sunlight flooding in and capturing the view out across the garden towardly the trees." To the left, the hall leads into the large, light-filled, triple-aspect drawing room, which has bi-folding doors right across one end. "We use this room all the time because it is such a nice space and it is also great when we have friends and family over," Stacey says. Also on the ground floor, are the cloakroom, snug, study, utility room and dining room, as well as the kitchen, breakfast and family room. Both the dining room and kitchen, breakfast and family room have bi-folding doors on to the garden.

FAMILY HUB

All five bedrooms are situated on the top floor of the house. Three of these have en suite bath or shower rooms and there is also a family bathroom. The master bedroom and main guest suite also have dressing rooms and significant storage. "It is very easy to have people to stay here," Stacey says. "As well as having a large family ourselves, we also have a very large extended family and we have an open house! Everyone always comes here to gather and celebrate their special occasions. We have had all sorts of parties, some with marquees in the garden and others which have almost been like fairgrounds, with three or four bouncy castles and even candy floss!"

FOND MEMORIES

There is still potential for new owners to make their own mark on Tagra, however. The garage, currently used by Stacey and Hayden as a gym, could hold scope to be converted into additional accommodation (subject to the relevant planning permissions). "You could also look into extending the main house further and even adding a swimming pool," she suggests. "We have been very happy here as it is, however, and will miss it greatly when we leave. It has been an excellent family home and we will take so many happy memories with us of the children growing up and everything we have done to the house to make it our own."

SETTING THE SCENE

Tagra is set in approximately three acres of beautiful gardens and wooden grounds. It is set down a lane and has a private gated entrance. Within the grounds there is ample space for outside living, entertaining and children to play. There is a detached double garage block, which is currently used as a gym, and a double car port.
