Deanfield, previously known as The Villa, was built in 1840 by Mr T Allaway.  Mr Allaway also owned the King's Ironworks and Tin Plate works in Parkend which is now Deanfield Study Centre.  He later sold Deanfield to Mr H Crawshay whom was a member of the family of the iron works in South Wales.  Mr Crawshay then sold the Villa to Mr S Sant, the Quarry Master of the Forest of Dean Stonework's around 1900.  The Villa later came into the hands of Colonel Lewis and his family and renamed Deanfield in 1928.  It has subsequently changed hands with different owners before ending up as a family home for the current proprietors in 1986.  Deanfield has been a Guest House for more than 20 years.
