Tourism is what makes this historic market town tick - it is the closest large town to London's Stansted airport and many of its residents are in the hotel, catering and airline trade.
Just 29 miles from London, this affluent area has much to offer and it can rival its neighbouring capital city in more ways than one. It has become a meeting point for the surrounding villages and out of town estates, thanks to its excellent amenities and cultural events.
Property in Bishop's Stortford comprises city apartments, penthouses on the riverside and many new houses and flats. Neo-Georgian style properties are plentiful, as are older semis and detached properties - perfect for families.
The Stortford Film festival takes place in May and showcases over 60 feature films, animations, documentaries and music videos from more than 20 countries. It is gaining in reputation and popularity every year.
The nightlife is excellent with many wine bars, night clubs and pubs located in the centre of the town. Sports fans can choose from cricket, football, hockey, rugby and golf. Shoppers, too, are well served by the many retail outlets in Jackson's Square, and market days are Thursdays and Saturdays.
Developments in transport have been responsible for the rapid growth and prosperity of Bishop's Stortford. As well as its proximity to Stansted Airport, it enjoys excellent bus and rail links and is situated close to junction 8 of the M11 motorway, affording easy access by road.
Bishop's Stortford will always remain a popular place to put down roots due to its ideal location for commuters to London and international travel. With a crime rate much lower than the UK average, it is an extremely pleasant place to live and to bring up a family.
