Walking

Otters Holt is perfect for walking enthusiasts with almost 100 footpaths in around the town including a Heritage Trail and a Coleridge-linked path into the surrounding countryside.

Events and Festivals

Ottery St Mary holds a number of events and festivals throughout the year. The most famous is the Tar Barrels on 5 November where men run through the streets carrying flaming tar barrels along with the traditional Pixie Day in June. There are also food and jazz festivals.

Places of interest

Ottery’s most important building is the church of St Mary, a magnificent scaled down version of Exeter Cathedral, there is also the Tumbling Weir built in 1790 just along from Otters Holt.
Cadhay House is not far and is a Tudor House that is open to the public with a tearoom.
Escot Park is also close by and offers a range of activities from woodland walks, archery, Segway and a maze in the grounds designed by Capability Brown.

Beach

The golden sands and the blue waters backed by impressive red cliffs the beaches of Sidmouth are just over six miles from Otters Holt.

Food and drink

Ottery St Mary has a number of places to eat and drink with cafes, pubs and restaurants on the historic High Street.

The town has an array of family-owned independent stores and boutiques along with a Sainsburys. There is a street market held on the first Friday of the month along with a community market once a month.
