Lifestyle

Out and about

Because it borders two larger towns, Stevenston has historically been a primarily residential location. Having said that, this compact town still offers everyday amenities such as a post office, dentists, chemists and takeaways. There is a supermarket in the town's Hawkhill retail park, alongside a large DIY store, while Stevenston library is centrally positioned along Main Street. Meanwhile, the Firth of Clyde's sandy beaches serve as a constant reminder of Stevenston's stunning coastal location, just a short stroll along Shore Road from the town's eponymous train station. Stevenston also benefits from a number of sporting amenities, ranging from a bowling club to a skate park, with some superb golf courses within easy driving distance. By travelling west along the A78, you reach Saltcoats and then Ardrossan. The shared resources across these two seamlessly merged towns include inns, bistros and restaurants, alongside a wider selection of shops and stores. Ardrossan is also the main harbour for ferry journeys to Arran, which is a dramatic island thoroughly deserving of its status as a tourist hotspot.

Resident Life

Mayfield Manor offers a refined environment for its residents. Constructed on former farmland on the edge of Stevenston, properties on the estate's northern periphery will enjoy countryside views, while the established neighbouring houses to the south are some of the town's finest.

This lengthy new development will feature two separate play areas for youngsters, with four compact cul-de-sacs branching off a straight central avenue

Furthermore, since this estate stands on the edge of town, there is no passing traffic to worry about, yet the Three Towns bypass is easily accessible along Dalry Road.

Places of interest

Ayrshire is a region steeped in history and natural beauty, and Stevenston is centrally placed to take advantage of these surroundings.

To the south lie Ayr and Prestwick, whose attractions include the Burns Museum, Ayr's famous racecourse and the highly regarded Culzean Castle and country park. Alternatively, head north from Stevenston and you soon reach coastal towns like Seamill and Largs - the former renowned for a popular hotel with outstanding leisure facilities. Largs is a tourist hotspot thanks to its promenade, eateries and quirky shops, and it also hosts the Vikingar! museum, detailing life in Viking times.

The 400-hectare Eglinton country park at Kilwinning is home to woodland walks, a ruined castle and one of Ayrshire's largest play areas for children. Indeed, the great outdoors is all around you wherever you go in Ayrshire, with Stevenston itself bordered to the south by picturesque coastline, while rolling countryside awaits exploration in every other direction.

Transport links

Despite being nestled on a picturesque stretch of coastline, Stevenston is surprisingly well-positioned for travel throughout the west of Scotland.

The modern A78 bypass channels traffic around the town, and also provides a high-speed link with the A77 to Glasgow and the central belt's superb motorway network, with the A737 offering a more direct path to the city. The A78 also extends north towards Inverclyde and south towards the major conurbations of Ayr and Prestwick, while the latter's international airport is less than 15 minutes by car from the front door of properties at Mayfield Manor.

Each of the Three Towns (Ardrossan, Saltcoats and Stevenson) has its own train station, while Ardrossan (thanks to its rich maritime history) has three. The mainline residential stations have a half-hourly service to and from Glasgow Central, taking as little as 36 minutes - when you consider that some outer suburbs of Glasgow are almost half an hour by rail from the city centre, journey times from Stevenston are quite simply superb. This setting combines coastal beauty with enviable accessibility for the big city - an ideal blend of town and country.
